Chiang lungs are lung dragons, the dragons of Kara-Tur and other lands that revere the Celestial Bureaucracy, of which they are a part. Chiang lung are the spirits of rivers and lakes, responsible for bringing rain and making the water flow. They are also patrons of scholars and artists. They answer to the Four Dragon Kings, Ao Ch'in, Ao Jun, Ao Kuang, and Ao Shun. They must report once a year to the court of the Celestial Emperor, Yu-Huang-Shang-Ti, in the Jade Palace on the plane of Mechanus (1e OA, page 119).

Chiang lungs resemble long, serpentine dragons with four short legs, webbed feat, and blue and green scales. They have multicolored beards, white horns, and brilliant yellow underbellies. They are said to dwell in magical palaces beneath the rivers or lakes they protect.

Chiang lungs dwell in magical palaces beneath the waters they protect. They sometimes entertain artists and scholars on lavish boats, posing as wealthy nobles or government officials. Occasionally their sons and daughters are attracted to attractive humans, who may have children (who are considered river spirit folk). Such romances usually end in tragedy.
