Thanks Goth! I appreciate it.
Harmonium Ranger
One of my favorite pieces of work. The redesign of the Harmonium armor is based off of a combination of DiTerlizzi's classic designs and John Howe's notes on creating practical armor for the Lord of the Rings movies.
It's nice to see more artists who are realizing the advantages of drawing unique armour in a realistic manner as opposed to the sort you find in most fantasy settings. Keep up the good work, Dagon!
Cheers.
So it is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you can win a hundred battles without a single loss. If you only know yourself, but not your opponent, you may win or may lose. If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself. - Sun Tzu, The Art of War
Thanks guys!
Sciborg- Part of the problem is that the pencil has rubbed in places since that sketch book travels with me and I scanned it a long time after I actually drew it. The other part is that I still working on shading and this was the first real success I had with a reasonably realistic full figure (especially the hands). I'll definitely keep that in mind though.
Center - I would suggest the Extended Edition DVDs if you can each one has two disks of featurettes and Mr. Howe and Weta Workshops both take their time to explain how they designed every different type of armor in each movie. They also contain Galleries with commentaries for each race that are useful. The "Art of the Lord of the Rings" also has about a fourth of it dedicated to John's concept art and is a very useful reference I find. I'm also on the lookout for anything that has John's insights, so if I find anything else, I'll let you know.
Is there somewhere I can find John Howe's notes? Armor drawing is one of my weaknesses (which is why few of my characters actually wear armor), and I'd like to read what armor-crafters do when building ornate, but functional suits.

Cool - like the sketch, perhaps shading would add a lot more clarity to the picture.
