World of Nerath as a Oerth parallel?

As you may have noticed, the unnamed core Prime Material world that is used in 4e (which we'll call World of Nerath here, or just Nerath for short) uses quite a lot of material from the Greyhawk campaign (i.e the deities Pelor, Kord, Vecna and Tharizdun, Villains like Ascererak and Igwillv, and locations like the Vault of the Drow and the Temple of Elemental Evil. By contrast, it only has one Faerunian deity, Bane. So cosmologically speaking, couldn't Nerath be considered a parallel Oerth (obviously there are some signifigant differences, such as a different continental layout and different empires, to say nothing of only having one moon!) Certain Grayhawk NPCs such as Mordenkainen are also present (i.e the named spells, and game products such as Mordenkainen's Magnificent Emporium, or whatever the hell it's called.)

This is a great hypothesis. It also allows for this setting to finally get pinned down (I am sorta assuming they will create a new setting for 5e?)

They finally created a map because they needed one for the "World of Nerath" board game. As for using it in 5th edition, your guess is as good as mine, although my instincts tell me that they're going to ditch all the fluff material they created for 4E (i.e the Primordials vs. the Gods, the planar arrangement, Angels and Archons, and so forth.) Whether they will create something else completely new or go back to the Great Wheel and the traditional Planescape races I can't say, but a return to classic Planescape material would suprise (and please!) me. Not that I dislike the 4E stuff, but I think most of the folks here would rather have the classic material updated with new options and a good set of rules, with a return to using the nine standard alignments.
