According to this chart, a good portion of Planescape fans are in Czech Rep., Russia, and Poland. I would've guessed that the majority would come from the US and Canada, given that's where it originated. Any idea why the largest fan base seemed to have sprouted in so unexpected a place?
Where do Planescape fans live?
Oh. Well... that certainly is a good point. *cough* I feel kinda stupid now.
After doing a few other searches on that thing, the results make absolutely no logical sense. I think it is either broken or not working under the same logic as myself.
Hijacking this post!
I'm interested to know where folks on planewalker are from. I asked the question of the players in my game, and I had; US, Scandinavia, Australia, and UK.
I'm a Yankee, BTW.
USA - Southern Girl.
USA
The Midwest. >_<
I'm an Aussie
Pacific North Western United States
Hey, me too. I didn't realise there were other Cagers rattling around the area.
Pants of the North!
East Coast.
Speaking of this, there was a thread posted a while back with a link to an interactive map that let Planescape fans post their locations. I can't, for the life of me, remember anything else about it or find the thread here, but I remember it being a pretty neat map.
/Resumes self-imposed exile.
USA, West Virginia.
I wish there were more PS fans around here, though
I'm actually Russian, but I live in Tennessee.
Well, if you count my players, there are a few of us ... though I doubt they actually qualify, seeing as they know nothing of the setting I haven't introduced them to.
There used to be another one of us around here as well ... which I discovered back when that map (mentioned above) went up ... but I haven't seen her around lately ... maybe she got mazed.
Hawaii.
US, Northwest side of Chicago.
I did not know there were Americans called themselves that.
Gamer ghoul from Croatia.
One-eyed, one-horned, flying, purple people eater says: "Monsters are nature's way for keeping XPs fresh."
Hey, I met someone at my school from Croatia once.
USA- North Carolina to be more specific.
Australian in New England
Central North Carolina, USA
Croatia
Yeps. There's Americans what call American's that too but that's a whole nother issue
And - wait - there's 3 people (counting myself) from NC on here? Do you guys attend the ENworld NC GameDay at NCSU?
Italy,
from Turin.
4E PLANESCAPE FACTION THEMES
/forum/4e-planescape-factions-updates
No, my earliest posts were done while I was working in Kosovo/living in Macedonia. I returned to the US just over a year ago. I was unaware that ENWorld did anything at NCSU. I currently live in Greenville attending school at ECU (I needed a serious career change). If I remember correctly, there are several other people who havce not posted much recently who also live in NC.
Also a Yank. Michigan.
Cool you were in Macedonia? Do they have any monuments to Alexander there or anything?
When I say "I'm a Yankee" I literally mean a New Yorker. In fact I had 3 ancestors who fought the Brits in the Revolution, and very few of my family ever left NY.
The modern-day Macedonia (FYROM) has very little to do with the ancient Macedonians. (Just ask the modern-day Greeks. )
There's a region in Greece called Aegean Macedonia, but it's not a country as such.
I do not remember seeing any monuments or such dedicated to Alexander the Great, but they did name the airport after him. It is true that there is a name dispute between Macedonia and Greece over the name Macedonia, but that is an issue of international politics.
Well what do you know. I happen to know there is a cluster of us living in Central New York. Me, Fidrikon, Blackthornes, Dread Pirate Swan, Ven, perro... and thats just the ones of us that sometimes post!

Nice. I went to college in Syracuse, but now I live in the Mid-Hudson Valley.

New York? Isn't that like at the center of the multiverse or something?
Northern New York (like, in Canada). Possibly about to become Southern New York.
Oh, well I don't have a problem with you then.
Germany
Wo im Deutchland? Ich habbe freunden wie kompt aus Fankfurt. Ich werde einem studenten im 1989 sein. Im Saarland.
Dortmund - about 250 km north of Frankfurt.
I'm a Yankee, BTW.
Hehe, sorry Azure but its a common joke in Denmark that Americans never are able to get more specific than "Scandinavia", as if that was a country.
On a different note, it could be interesting to see when people most frequently post on Planewalker by GMT. When the "busy hours" are and such.

Well at least they don't still call you axe wielding, sea fairing, lunatics.
I live in the Fens of the Land of Mary
(Maryland, USA)
Personally I tend to find fans are either from eastern europe or have eastern european roots.
Maybe its coincedence. Neither apply to me.
1st gen Australian, of Scottish descent.
I live in Southern California. I've never met any other PS fans here, but I have converted a couple.

True dat. We might've conquered UK and raided France on the weekends, but vikings were actually quite civil folks. Not so much the pop-culture image of berserkers with horned helms and dual-wielding greataxes.
Everyone conquered the UK.
 I actually couldn't remember if you were in Denmark or Norway, so I hedged my bet.
But yea, most Americans would have trouble finding Denmark on a map .... of Denmark
As for misperceptions, most people I've met traveling (I've been to England, Scotland, Wales, Germany, France, and Israel, also Canada but that barely counts) don't really understand that all of New York isn't "The City" (yes, that's what we call NYC here, as if any other city is 'A' city, while NY is 'THE' city )
 I actually couldn't remember if you were in Denmark or Norway, so I hedged my bet.

The US public education system doesn't really teach much about other countries (at least back when I went through it) other than:
1) some stuff about Canada and Mexico in the 18th/19th centuries
2) some stuff about Western Europe (mostly the British Isles and WWII Germany)
3) a very little bit about ancient Greco-Roman history
I can't be too surprised if we fail at geography.
BoGr Guide to Missile Combat:
1) Equip a bow or crossbow.
2) Roll a natural 1 on d20.
3) ?????
4) Profit!
Kind of like how the rest of the world seems to think that the state of Illinois consists entirely of the city of Chicago. When I tell people "I'm from Illinois." people respond with "Chicago?"

Well at least they teach us how to accept authority without question or go to jail.
Spiteful Crow, when I say I'm from Hawaii people don't even bother asking a question. Most people don't know enough to even go about making mistaken assumptions.
People can be pretty bad with Geography no matter what the area is. Several times in my life I've said I was from West Virginia and people have assumed I meant western Virginia because they didn't realize we were a state. And I'm not talking about people from other countries or English as a second language students (who would at least have a good reason to not know or misunderstand), I mean people who live in neighboring states. Sigh, ignorant people make me sad :x
you're associating search trends in google for a specific term with fanbase, which is probably a pretty poor proxy. Note that the same google trends calculator when fed D&D gives Italy as the number one, Forgotten Realms nets Hungary as number one. Interesting Dungeons and Dragons, spelled out as oppossed to the acronym, gives the US and Canada number one, so does Eberron.
I have a feeling that this tracker uses exactitude and the spellings of the same terms in other languages register differently (Yao Ming returns China as number 7 for example) and so a term like planescape may skew towards international for such reasons.
