I know this is kind of pointless but i just wanted to have a clue of what people liked for races
What is your favorite race?
"I am the professional. Failure is not an option and there is no question you will not answer... whether you're willing or not."
Hey shido my favorite race would have to be the wood elves gear_:?
my favorite race to use forever will be the usual elve, and maybe sometimes a githzerai.
The Tour de France.
Or humans.
I'll admit to a fondness for humans myself. Not just because I can play anything I want to play with one - but also because so many people underestimate them. It makes it so much easier to play the style character I play..
Definatly Githzeria
I'm rather fond of the tuladhara.
Pants of the North!
There is no such concept as a "pointless" question. Somewhere, somehow, some person will always have an opinion to make the question worth being asked.
Which brings me to my answer for your question:- The Slaadi.
Humans: there's something alluring about the race that gets overlooked, and something empowering about following the path to power without fancy abilities. And there's something very sweet about an extra feat and getting free choice of favored class.
Near-humans: Near-humans (such as planetouched) are also very interesting, because they allow me to make a character who functions as if he were human, but is physically different in a way that can tie into his background and personality. I play planetouched as humans with a twist--literally: planetouched are humans. They just are a different kind of human than the base homo sapiens that we know and love.
Besides that, I've always been strangely drawn to bladelings because of their mystery and their strange origins and secrets, which even they may not understand fully. And who doesn't love razorstorm? I think I first fell in love with the spiky berks when I saw the illustration in the 2e Monstrous Compendium. No other bladeling illustration has come close, in my opinion. Not porcupine quills; big spikes erupting from their skin.
And the githyanki. They're so perfect as a race of evil killers who actually work. They've managed to make a successful, (nearly) stable society based on unabashed evil that they embrace: conquest, destruction, cruelty, pride, arrogance, vengeance, and, above all, hate. The possibilities of their beliefs fascinate me. The don't try to disguise their evil, and they fully understand it. But they choose and embrace the darkness, using it as a tool to further their goals, because everything to them is an enemy to crush or a weapon to wield.
Well, there's always that other culture that everyone likes, and is based on evil ways. But i'm way too sick of those white-haired cave elves to even mention their name
I used to prefer the L'Ilythiiri
Well, if your looking for a nice dose of evil, there's always the Alhoon. A nasty combination of mindflayer and lich, It takes a lot of work to get more evil than that.
but my favorite race to play (since my DM would never let me play a mindflayer) would have to be the Kobald. There's nothing better than the expression on someones face when the Kobald Monk beats you into a pulp.
somebody else does like githyanki
Githyanki are also a favorite of mine, its a hard choice to choose between the pixie and githyanki. It is because the pixie is small and mischevious while the githyanki are evil, powerful, and cruel all in one, not to mention their awesome silvered swords (bye bye astral projection! :eatYou: )
"I am the professional. Failure is not an option and there is no question you will not answer... whether you're willing or not."
truth told i'm trying to decide between githanki githzari and wood elves
trans_:D
another one i noticed was human came up a few times which is always good when not being a monster race that is actually my favorite normal race.
Good point w/ the kobald BERK, because yes i would be suprised if a kobald monk kicked the krap out of my character
"I am the professional. Failure is not an option and there is no question you will not answer... whether you're willing or not."
sorry on the spelling and another commonly overlooked race is the goblinoids does furt ring any bells shido
uhhh......i usally play as a goblin wich makes many people stay up at night pondering but my size gives me many advantages when hiding or sneaking and it's allways fun to see the look on royalties face when a goblin bard or barbarian(depending on my mood) is the cause of the destrution of most their guards. anyway, goblins are my favorite race and i will forever play as them.
p.s. i've got all the people i play with find a dark lust for my goblin bard like speggeti man and fidrikon. furt the goblin lord of the dance will forever be a big shot in the land of fidrikons dinning room!
here here yes ha ha ha hey look over there ------>
whatever floats your boat swan
I think I'll go with gnomes. You can't miss with a bunch of crazy inventors who have a natural talent for magic. Not to mention compulsive trickery
dude shiido, would it be so hard to only chose one....mabye two races?
i don't see anything.......aahhhhhh......my brain hurts!
what about kobolds
Fine dread pirate swan, I choose my new race of dweeb. It is very fast and small with a supernatural silence effect and so small that they get a bunch to hide checks. they also have sticky fingers that allow them to climb walls and trees w/ no check.
Their speeds are 40 base, 40 swim, 40 burrow, + they climb at their base land speed. They are under the tiny size category and have a favored class of rogue
Their racial ability mods are -8 Str +10 Dex +4 Con +4 Int -4 Wis (not positive on the con bonus, it might have been Cha)
They are proficient w/ greatswords (1d8) (these make great toothpicks for larger creatures)
Use Dex instead of Str on all strength based skills and attack rolls (not damage) this does not include grappling
"I am the professional. Failure is not an option and there is no question you will not answer... whether you're willing or not."
But if they're so tiny, and other races use them as toothpicks, then that means that the swords are like litte sewing pins. That would have to be, like, 1d2 damage at most.
Frid ' s got a point unless their magicly imbued there pretty harmless
*cleans his teeth with a very tiny sword*
dude.......a 1d2 toothpick......i could fight with that......do i need a weapon proficancy for that?
sorry, i'll change that, a pocket knife or butter knife
"I am the professional. Failure is not an option and there is no question you will not answer... whether you're willing or not."
but can i still charge into battle with a toothpick?
of coarse you can. And if the DM is in a good mood, the enemy will laugh hard enough to give a minus to their rolls.
yeah i definetly agree... it would be really weird to see a goblin charging into battle with a toothpick
little do you fools know it's an toothpick that causes mummyrot........oohhhh shiido......you have something in your teeth........
My the trick for those annoying players
*crumbles away into dust*
a new favorite for the choice of races would be KOBLODS in fact i have a koblod monk and all he does is punch people/gnolls in the nuts. It is a freaking blast!!!
and if any of you use that tooth pick on me i will throw a carrot bomb at you :: shakes fist ::
Elves and tiefers were my faves for a long sodding time, I like them in all their hues, but since Incursion came out, I have to say githyanki have grown into a bit of an obsession for me. I always liked the nasty bloods, but seeing them in fleshed out has put them on the top of my list. I'm working on a vocabulary list and tir'su font for them, and looking for anything new about them on the net...
I'm Samuel M. Wright, and you're not.
Tieflings! I love Tieflings strangely enough, that and- nope just Tieflings with the possability of elves *shrugs*
I personaly engoy the the occasional tiefling but my preference for outsider offspring would have to be a gensai or aasimir
Any idea on when they'll both be ready?
I've always liked the githzerai. Ever since Dakkon...
Also like their obsession with freedom and how they are a darker race, though not evil.
Genasi for me, I think. Always liked the idea of combining the pure elements with humans. It's almost like playing an elemental undine, salamander or whatever. Too bad they don't have much of a backstory, unlike the Githyanki. Someone should write some sort of 'ancient empire' history for the various genasi. I mean, they must have been around as long as humans have been on the Prime and the Inner Planes have been in existence, right?
That would be like writing a history for half-elves, teifilings or aasimar though.
Planetouched don't really form exclusive communities too often.
My favorite races are:
All of the Planetouched
Yugoloths
and of course I like the Drow
In the current Forgotten Realms game I'm in, I play an Aasimar Thief/Sorcerer. It's been cool. Using the racial bias towards Aasimar (nice, holy, upper planar people) and abusing it as much as possible (usually running the streets in the robes of a priest of Lathander as well when I go out "collecting goods").
Yugoloths are just so awesome it's not funny. They are easily my favorite fiendish race. The manipulative, deceptive, always looking out for themeselves thing really works for me.
Drow . . . well to some degree I got interested in the D&D by reading the Icewind Dale Trilogy
Well tiefers DO have their own god, Tonidietiarl'izie, who has blessed them all with the gift of having great rears.
My vote is kobalds. They are the vietcong of the planes.

LOL! Mmmmm....Cat Lord.....
Been to his site lately? He's branching out into all kinds of illustration, including some rather risque ladies...

Heh heh I know. If only I had the money to throw at him to get him to do illos for Planescape again...
Who knows - if all of Planewalker got together maybe we could commission a Planewalker mascot? I'll say this - I want some male tiefer goodness along with the female. Sorry - there's just not enough hot male tiefers out there for my tastes. (Yes. The character in Shemmie's game is male. The player is distinctly female.)
Sure, why not. I'm sure he can draw hot male tiefers' buns just as well as the ladies. I just wonder whether he would be willing to illustrate for planescape at all anymore. He probably thinks of it as a phase in his life that's finished.
Maybe Ken could politely ask him, on behalf of everyone here at Planewalker, whether he could do a simple piece to commemorate the game he did so much work for. I'd even be willing to pitch in some money for that, but it would be nice if he could do it for free.
Unfortunately, Tony D is probably out of the question, even if there was money involved. It's worth a try sometime, but when he was at GenCon a couple years ago, we takled to him about the site and even the possibility of a commission, but he's booked up for years with all of the projects he's working on now.
So I'm not saying don't even think about it, I'm just saying certainly don't get your hopes up. I think a mascot of some sort would be cool, but we might want to look at someone who is still a pretty active part of RPG illustration. Depending on how big name they are, maybe we could even scrounge up some money to pay for a "moderate" name. *shrug* Who knows until we try? (Just with Tony D, we did try and were quite politely turned down.)
-Ken
my favorite so far would have to be a pixie, yay
