Voshani's Protection OOC

New Game: Voshani’s Protection

I finally have an idea for a game Planescapey enough to play here, post-by-post. The game will lead the players on a quest to save themselves from warring groups of Doomguards and worshipers of the goddess, Voshani (a personal creation of mine.) I have outlined the adventure, but I have not stated it out yet, so potential players can help me decide what level to make it, but it should stay relatively low. The game will mostly take place on the inner planes, and it will be 3.5ed. I am looking for a few members who want in on this game, but players who want to join must make sure their characters can get along well enough.

Anyone up for it?

Hi Wexquif,

I might be interested, I've got a couple of other games on the go but one just wrapped up. What sort of game will it be? Combat/Philosophy/Diplomacy/Survival/Horror/Comedy/etc? (likely a mix I understand but most games have a general 'tone'.)

How often would you like players to post?

Also, low level characters may need a little help surviving on the inner planes unless you've got something special planned.

The game will primarily be survival, which is one the reasons it takes place on the inner planes.  It will be mostly in the milder parts of the inner planes, which is why it should be at low levels.  I would like players to post at least once a week, which is pretty important during combat.  I would love if you join, especially since you have a Watchmen avatar.

Is that a veiled criticism of me?

Anyway, level five would certainly get the ball moving. Maybe.

I am concerned with your choice of a sthein.  Part of me wants to see a B+B character in action, but the +4 LA is pretty steep.

EDIT: Looks like you changed the part about the sthein.

Hi Wexquif, Sounds good.

Hi Wexquif,

Sounds good. I've got a few ideas that could work well in that setting but it might depend on what books you are happy with me using. I'm fine with L5 but L6 might suit me better (I like PrC's and can PM you details).

Are you thinking standard gold/items for that level?

ATM a quick summary of my ideas in order of preference would be - Psionic monk (there's an earth-and-sky PRC that looks interesting), Elemental Cleric (Using a PRC from sandstorm), Draconic Fighter, Warforged elemental warrior, Neraph Rogue type, Shifter Ranger/druid. I'm keeping it broad atm to see what others go for.

FYI I've been reading a lot of Eberron and Dark Sun stuff recently so my character may be drawing some inspiration from there.

Incidentally 'Magic of Eberron' includes a section on elemental grafts which may work in this campaign.

I guess we'll go with level 6. I'll begin the stating.  13,000 gp for starting wealth, but I reserve the right to reject any magic item.

@Burning Spear: I would not recomend playing the wendigo, because of the fire vunerablity.  I also need you to tell me where the militant rogue is. (PHB?) Please just copy and paste the doc in a PM.

@Azriael: Eberron is my third favorite setting. By all means, play an Eberronian.

Huh, what about the fire vulnerability?

if its a normal game, fire is not predominant, so i dont worry about it..besides, magic items can help a lot..

Crap Tongue out,

Was looking forward to playing a "wolverine", hmmz..

Page 58 of Unearthed Arcana, Rogue, more militant, trade's sneak for fighter feats, and no other changes (so feats lvl 1,2,4,6 etc.)

hehe, ill go for a Anthromorphic Animal character:

Boar (Savage Species, page 215+)

will thus be: "Boar" +2 lvl adj(and +2 bab), Barbarian 1, Militant Rogue 2, Sumo 1

Well I was reading over the Sumo class, and it looks kind of overpowered.  We will have to find someway of balanacing it.  I was also unable to get a hold of SS, so it may take a while before we can finish this character. Also, if you want to, you can redo the stats with 32 point-buy, but its fine if you don't.

Hey Wexquif,

Got your PM. No probs, since BS is going a fighter type I'll go a divine caster or Stealth type, are we waiting on others to join?

I would like other players to join, but I'll find a way to make it work if they don't.

@BurningSpear: Not allowing the character to wear armor might balance the class out and make it seam more like a summo wrestler.

If u read the ability, he

If u read the ability, he cannot wear armor if he wants to use his blubber armor etc... so your point is moot Smiling

and on another note, he isnt a monk, so no wis bonus to ac, and no flurry of blows etc.

The bonuses from Blubber Armour are lost if the character wears any armour at all

+ Andromorphic Boar gets +6 nat armor, so for a while the blubber armor is moot anyway as the nat armor is higher..

Character description:

Massive for a medium creature, he has no neck to speak off, and is nearly as round as he is high...his grey-brown skin is heavily furred and he has long hair in braids all over the side of his neck and head, the back is long and wavy..

His big ears hang floppily down, and give an almost comical look, had he not also had big thusk that is.

His snout is pinkish and gleaming and his beady icy blue eyes sparkle like little gems in all that big brown-greyish fur.

He wears big flowing robes and cloak and kilt-like clothing, all in different colours but most are muted to fit in a forest environ, be it in autumn or summer...

Well there are a couple of problems, you forgot that an anthropomorphic boar has two HD, giving it a ECL of 4 without class levels.  Also, if you want to be a sumo, I am going to rule you cannot wear armor and use any of the class abilties.

Eughm, howso?, the HD arent they costing the +2 lvl adj? and not additional? it says nowhere that hd of the base are additional, or is it?, where in the book does it say that plz?

I think its a basic rule in MM?

I did read the example on a Tri-Kreen:

A nonpsionic thri-kreen PC’s effective character level (ECL) is equal to its class level + 3. Thus, a 1st-level nonpsionic thri-kreen ranger has an ECL of 4 and is the equivalent of a 4th-level character.

So that craps it up indeed, for me that is... i will guess i have to change the buildup a little then.

Will come back on that one in a bit.

Wexquif wrote:

It already states which things are and arent usable when in armor, no need to go overboard on that.Besides, why are u so focussed on the armor bit? i am not intend on wearing armor anyway (Doesnt even fit the character, and imo certainly not with a Sumo)...so hold yr horses Sticking out tongue

Hmmz, not having the space

Hmmz, not having the space for the required lvls is not helping my concept...

I am thinking about a Andromorphic Boar lvl 1/1 Monk Barbarian, lol, but have to find out how i do that in regards to alignment restrictions...

It would totally fit the concept of the Sumo prest class and the character, but the alignment restrictions kill this possibility a bit...

Any thoughts?

A barbarian Monk, is how i envision a Sumo, seeing he can rage, and is monk like, (except for all the abilities that define a monk like wisdom to ac, and other minor thingsInnocent)

Anybody else have ideas on this? is it unbalancing to play a combination of these or what?

i could imagine a raging flurry of fists, but is it not broken rules wise?

I would envision this char

I would envision this char to build up as follows:

Start off with: 2hd +2 lvl adj, Barb 1, Monk 1,

then add, Monk 2, "militant"rogue 1, 2, then Sumo 1, then maybe fighter 1, 2, or continue Sumo or mix...this way he gets a lot of feats,

and decent skillpoints to not just be a basic fighter.

Also, story wise, he was found "lvl 1 barb, and was then trained to be more focussed, becomming a monk" and in this way, i will have to disregard the alignment rules...

Skills:

2+int (2)x 5= 20 for racial HD, 4+ 2 for Barb 1, 4+ 2 for Monk 1:

1st racial HD: Listen 5, Spot 5, Know. Warfare 2 (4), Know. Rel 2 (4), Know. Nature 1 (2)

2nd Barbarian 1: Survival 2, Intimidate +1, Know, Warfare +1 (2), Listen 1

3rd Monk 1:Survival +2, Know. Warfare +0,5 (1), Intimidate 1, Spot +1, Sense Motive 1,

Feats:

Lvl 1: Great Fortitude

Lvl 3: Close Quarter Fighting

Monk1: Improved Grapple

Bab: racial +2, Barb +1, monk 0 or -2/ -2

Str mod: +4

Total: +7 or +5/ +5 if raging add +1 to hit.

Dam: 1D6 +4, if raging add +1 to dam.

Thusk attack: 1D8 +6

I PM'd Wexquif a little while back letting him know that I'd like a couple of more people to join (or at least one more) if I was going to play. I don't find 2 people campaigns to be that much fun.

Feel free to ask around to see if anyone else is interested.
