Re: Transposition outside of ravneloft.

It appears in Van richetens guide on Fiends and I THINK I remember seeing it in a issue of Dragon magazine.. trying to remember which issue.

Basicly a Human slowly switches places with a fiend.

HE commits some kind of Abhorrent crime that draws the psychic attention of a Fiend.

The Fiend slowly draws the human into the Lower planes, and puts himself in the humans place

Wondering if that seems like something that works in any setting, its described in van richtens guide, but sounds like Fiends Dont KNOW that the mortals in ravenloft and would prefer NOT to go there lol.

That is a pretty awesome concept. I'm sure it can happen, though perhaps only in Crystal Spheres that have a special connection to the Lower/Upper planes?

I remember Dragon had some "celestial infusion" crunch where a PC bonds with a celestial. I'll try to track down which issue it was in.

Re: Transposition outside of ravneloft.

I saw it once I think...

but Transposition was a 2nd edition thing... and wasnt just a bond... it was literally trading places...

Eventualy the Fiend was free to roam Ravenloft, (or if we accept it DID NOT Directly involve the mists, the prime too possibly) and the mortal .... was left on the lower planes... to a fate too vile to contemplate.

point is it allows a minor loophole to the "they cant come without being summoned" because the evil acts ARE a summoning kind of sort of.

It also allows you to tell a story with fiends, In a community that wouldnt logically have a Wizard Capable of summoning one nearbye.

As well as Tell a story involving a plot by a balor, that PC's can interfere with even though they cant fight a balor in combat yet, if they can either kill, or redeem the transposing guy, they can save his soul, and save the land from the balors wrath.
