They say that the lowest layer in Pandemonium is Agathion...

They say that the lowest layer in Pandemonium is Agathion, where the rock finally becomes solid. A good deal of what they say is screed berk. That sodding plane is deeper than the Abyss. Under Agathion, the rock becomes solid, and deeper down it isn't rock at all…flesh, blood, nerves, thoughts, screams…
What most berks think is the entirety of the screaming plane is just a cork, holding the rest back. Me? I've been drinking Styx water, and still haven't forgotten...just a sodding cork...holding...the...rest...gods!

Interesting... so all the barmyness is bottled in... For good? Or does the cork go pop?

What do the ingress say about this theory?

Well think about it. A dam is in trouble if water is seeping through its surface. What do you think the winds of Pandemonium are? The holes. The cracks and breaks only filled by compression. Things are holding...for now.

Well my players are exploring exactly this possibility in my game, and so far they're a little leery of big mysteries, as they tend to kill a lot of characters. There's an article on the Source around here somewhere, and it talks about a single point of origin for all the winds on Pandemonium.

If that point is actually a thing/monster, that's all the more exciting, innit? Eye-wink

Perhaps the entire plane is breathing, exhaling its dying breath over the millennia, and when it finally dies it will disgorge all the lost and hidden treasures and forgotten godlings that were secreted within its shell.

***spoiler for Dead Gods***
That might explain why you have to be eaten/absorbed by the Ingress in order to get to Agathion. It's all friggin' alive!

I don't think "alive" would be the right word. Living perhaps but truely alive? Below Agathieion are layers made first of flesh, bone and muscle with nerves and stone mixed in. Perhaps the Ingress is just one of many such ways to get in (there are more ways into a body than just the mouth). The second layer below Agatheion is a layer made of nerves, grey matter, some flesh, some blood, some bone. Much of this layer has started to rot, but the thoughts can be heard. The physical winds are generated in the layer above, but the mental winds rip through here harder than ever. The third layer below is where the nerves have rotted away leaving only splashes of thought, howls, screams, urges and other primal things of the mind made physical or is the physical made in the mind's image?

One version of Pandemonium I used originally grew from the undead and imprisoned husk of a fallen god.

I think an outer plane can reasonably grow from a single seed, collecting like-minded realms, petitioners, and ideals as the eons pass, until it is as significant an infinity as any other.
