The soul of Planescape will remain very much alive in 4E!!!

Thank you Dire Lemon! You sum exactly my thoughts and angry rants on what I think of elder scrolls IV. If Bethesda ruin Fallout 3 I shall become a more active anarchist and send them all straight to the nine hells. Which I will then dismantle.

But hey, lets be glad its not 9th ED D&D. I tend to find that the ninth game in a sequel is often spectacularly terrible compared to its award winning brethren. I give Ultima, Might and Magic and Final Fantasy as examples (final fantasy due to the fact that I haven't heard a peep about this game by anyone, no one seems to have played it!) I highly recommend Might and Magic IX if you enjoy the feeling of all you internal organ begin wrenched violently from your mouth.

Even if 4E is raping and pillaging the "fluff" of DnD, I'm still very excited about the rule changes. I'm definitely gonna buy the new books for the rules, but stay faaaaaaaaaaar away from the story parts.

I get the feeling that allot of people didn't like the more traditional art style of FF9. I never played it either but I know someone who did and seemed to like it.

I would have to agree about Ultima 9. I didn't even have previous games in the series to compare it to at the time, but it was still quite terrible. Playing Ultima 7 later reinforced that belief.

Admittedly, there is one quest in Oblivion that is not boringly simple and is extremely rewarding as well. The quest you can get from the shrine of Sheogorath, Daedric prince of insanity, does not have waypoints walking you through every step of it like all the other quests do(which makes it somewhat jarring since I had to start my brain running again to complete it), and the ending is spectacularly rewarding.

And well, I've gotten terribly off topic. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who isn't thrilled with what we've seen of 4E though. It's hard to tell on the ENWorld boards at times, though it's nowhere near as bad as the Bethesda boards where the moderators actually censor dissenters.

Bethesda actually bar dissenters?! Puzzled What in the name of Sunes giant boobies does that achieve?

I had my suspicions considering if you look at their web site, its a giant propaganda circus. Theres a review about the Shivering Isles from the jerusalem post and its made by someone who hasn't even bothered to play the original game! But I figure hey its a game site obviously their gonna promote the game. But this is as bad as teens4christ.com who ban people who are opposed their dogmatic hate filled site of self inflicted ingorance!

What the hell is wrong with people?! Something gotta give soon. Thats all we can hope for I think.

Man everything sucks nowadays Sad

They're separating it more from magic, so that psionic powers don't merely duplicate wizard spells. The enchantment/charm spells will be removed from a wizard's repertoire so that only psions can accomplish effects like that.

oh crap. I was really trying to keep an open mind, and now you tell me they've gone and dumped one of the classic archtypes of fantasy literature. Sad

That's not true. Wizards will have enchantment spells, but the Psionic characters will be better at it.

Ah, now here's a good open-ended question:

How should the exact powers of an enchanter and a psionic telepath be different? Both should be thematic, but still integrate well with the rest of D&D game mechanics.

Schools are gone at least in the format they were in 3e, as they tried too hard to keep those schools balanced and found that they couldn't. So specialist wizards aren't going to be anything like 3e specialists. They're going to be completely separate classes like the warmage, dread necromancer and beguiler introduced later in 3.5e.

But for one thing I didn't like there being all these enchantment spells when I had a psion around, simply because they kept on ignoring the psion and then giving other classes abilities better than areas the psion was supposed to be at.

Wizards still get spells like charm person and various necromancy spells, but the bulk of those spells are going to the psion or the bard, or the new "shadow power source" classes that are like necromancers and illusionists.

Of course the answer to that question isn't going to be known till 2009, but they are designing all classes around powers that can be used At Will, Per Encounter, and Per Day...

That doesn't bode well for power points with this model of power usage. Though on the other hand, I suspect "psionic attack modes" are going to be the At Will powers of the psion, Ego Whip and Id Insinuation being used by a psion much like how a Warlock uses Eldritch Blast or those Wizard Reserve Feats in Complete Mage.
