The Lower Ward

This will end up being the home for all of the information that we can find on the Lower Ward seeing as that appears to be our initial launch point, and I've been tasked to research it. That said, if anyone else has information that they think is relevant or useful, please post it here.

It's late at night for me, so I`ll add more to this in the coming days, but here are a few links to get us started.

The Lower Ward used to be called the Prime Ward and was used as a ghetto for immigrants fromt he Prime to the city. This ended when the Shadow Sorcelled Key was used to open the portals to the Lower planes throughout the ward - resulting in the destruction of the place and renaming of the ward the Lower Ward. Of course the Primes were no longer locked in the ward after that either so maybe some good came of the carnage. Maybe.

Thant makes me think... perhaps first-time players should start as primes. First of all, that would explain why you can't play a bariaur (anyone want to animate one? Seriously) and second of all, that allow the character to slowly discover the planes along with the player, putting everyone on the same playing field.

Works great in a tabletop.... but how do you tell the difference between total newbie and old-school players coming to play the game for the first time? I suspect it may be a little frustrating for them to have their options limited overly much. :-/

And bariaur can be a patch coming in post game startup - gives you more time to develop it without holding the rest of the game back.

How about, if you get your prime to level __, then you can afterwards start planars on that account. Smiling

School and rugby are eating my life. I'll try to get some more up this week, but I promise nothing, as I have dedicated this weekend to massive rugby Sevens tournament. That said, here are a few locations that stand out for me in the Lower Ward.

The Ubiquitous Wayfarer:

Boarders both The Lady's Ward and the Lower Ward, the Wayfarer is an inn that is literally filled to the brim with portals, moreso then the rest of Sigil, all of which lead to the Great Ring as opposed to the Gatetowns. This is one of the proposed starting places for the game.

I haven't been able to find too much more on it, as the only source I've seen is In the Cage, which only has two short paragraphs on it, so if anyone else has informations, please post it. As an easter egg, I'd propose that we have one or two NPCs go on about how there is some link between the Wayfarer and the Portal Jammer, the link being of course that they are the same Inn in Shemmy's continuity.

The Styx Oarsman:

Another bar with character, the Oarsman caters to fiends and cross traders for the most part, and it can take a bit of garnish to get in if you don't know the password, which changes routinely. It's not too far from the Wayfarer, so it could make for a good early addition to the game and a good place for plot hooks. The owner is the githzerai Zegonz Vlaric, wo is quite bitter and has one of his hands frozen in an unusable claw. The this place is great for plot hooks? Rule-Of-Three.

Harbinger House:
I won`t lie, Harbinger House is one of my favorite PS modules, and I would love to see Harbinger House become part of this game. It`s tops two or three blocks away from the Wayfarer, and is ripe with things we can do with it. To the public, its just a regular Madhouse, run by the Believers of the Source. The Dark of it is that Harbinger House is occupied by those barmies that the Godsmen (and the Dabus) believe to be powers in the making. The whole building is tardis, that is to say, it is bigger on the inside.

The two others that popped out for me are the Great Foundry and the Shattered Temple, headquarters of the Godsmen and the Athar repectively, but I don`t have the energy to summarize both the Factol`s Manifesto and In the Cage on the subjects this late at night. Needless to say, those would most likely end up being two of the main hubs for the game.
