Definitely not! Keep up the ooks, and I'll try an' keep up with the shifting personas. Eye-wink

I definitely see him gaining a level in fighter soon, with the way he's entered combat-though I'll still keep up the MS and Hide, cause those have proven useful for this sort of foray. Smiling

Because I was inspired...

Years later...

The collector walks into the Necromancy Shop, toting a deader, the corpse's face smashed in.

Greetings Changeling. My mistress is unavailible at the moment, but she requests again that you refrain from murdering her servants. She thanks you, however, for returning the shell, and asks a 2,000 jink pay for the damages.

The figure dissolves into a silvery figure, his face featureless, though the distorted construct or servant gets an impression Argint is smiling. Give her my regards. Tell her I want compensation for four bodies. Three here now; one when I see her.

Argint raises his other hand, revealing a wand. The end glows red as embers coruscate along the rod. Before the monstrous entity can scream, a ball of fire launches forward, washing the entire room in flame.

As the smoke swirls away from his wing beats, Klar'si'nar chuckles ferally, his hide unscorched by the fireball's searing heat. His leather boots bite into the remains of shelving, flesh, and scroll as the half-dragon flicks crimson orbs into different pockets of the room.

He straddles the scorched husk of the sickening construct.

Perhaps you should've taken my advice, freak. I wonder if the Dusties will accept your stash out back.

His jaws unhinge into a leering grin as Queezow's pedantic eyeballs are seared away by a gout of dragon's flame...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok. I'm geared up for developing this character. Smiling

(PS: I know that is an oversimplication, but I hope it was somewhat entertaining Eye-wink

Note: Items used-Wand of Fireball(maximized, empowered); spell used-delay blast fireballs (the flecks of embers in the corners); ability used-Breath Weapon(fire, advanced)

I have some feat ideas developing in my mind from this...

Improve Change Self

You have honed your inherent ability to morph so that you acquire more of the creature's traits.

Prerequisites: Change Self ability

Benefit: You gain one of the creature's Special Qualities, such as damage reduction, scent, or tremorsense. This follows the same restrictions as for the creature, except that the save DCs are modified using your ability scores.

Normal: You can only gain the creature's natural and extraordinary special attacks.

Special: This feat can be taken multiple times. Each time it increases the number of qualities you are able to use.

---------------------------

Inherent Supernatural Ability

You are able to tap into the creature's supernatural talents.

Prerequisite: Improved Change Self

Benefit: You can utilize the creature's supernatural special attacks.

Normal: You can only use a creature's natural and extraordinary special attacks.

___________________________________

Just a couple of the ideas floating in my head. Wanted to balance it so that he couldn't get them super quick, but not so much that a doppleganger couldn't develop anything else relating to his class, either.

Let me know what you think and we'll go from there. Smiling

Mooohahahah!!

Those feats look good. Here are a few more:

Favored Form:

You are especially adept at morphing into a certain form, you gain its abilities.

Prerequisites: Change Self

Benefit: You gain the specific forms' supernatural special attacks, +5 Disguise when transforming into another creature with the same race as the favored form (eg. half-dragon)

Normal: You can only utilize the creature's natural/ extraordinary special attacks.

Special: This feat may not be taken multiple times. Only one favored form may be chosen.

Improved Favored Form:

You gain all the statistics of the Favored Form, and are in all respects, exactly like the Favored Form.

Prerequisite: Favored Form

Benefit: Same AC, Ability scores, attacks as Favored Form. True Seeing cannot distinguish the the Doppleganger from the Favored Form, +5 Disguise when transforming into another creature with the same race as the favored form (eg. half-dragon).

Normal: You do not have the same statistics as the favored form.

And yet one more:

Great Change:

You are able to change into a creature that is one size value different from yours

Prerequisite: Change Self

Benefit: For example A Medium Creature could EITHER change into any Large OR any Small Creature (select one when taking the feat).

Normal: You can only change into a creature of the same size (eg. Medium)

Special: This feat may be taken multiple times, each time it applies to a new size.

For example: If Argint has taken Great Change for Large Creatures (eg. ogre), he can take it again to become any Huge creature (fire giant). But he cannot morph into a tiny creature (eg. Bird) until he takes the feat once for Small Creatures. So when the feat is taken multiple times, each new Great Change has to be 'one away' from the sizes Argint can already morph into.

Thought you might like that line. Eye-wink

Those feat are RAWKIN!!!

From what I've read on the SRD, a doppleganger can assume Small or Medium humanoid forms, but I'll take the Medium only restriction--he has plenty of options as it goes.

Cannot wait to see where his progression goes! Smiling

Cern, I'm thinking our characters will make an interesting and malleable team--poss. two assassins, if we wanted to take the PrC.

Trias,
If okay with you, I will await a response to the PM I just sent in reply to your PM. (depending upon your answer(s), her course of actions may change. (also relative to Xasskorn/X'boryn's decision).

Benyamin (& Trias): you should consider looking into the "Monster" feats in the Savage Species book -it has a lot of official feats that would increase/expand the doppleganger abilities.*

As for PrC's: Assassin is an excellent choice -so is Mindspy (or coupling the two).*

*I'm willing to post/pm either for you if desired.

Indeed, the three of our characters would make an extremely potent espianoge/assassin squad. (Aras included due to his hobgoblin sneakiness and class abilities). Even Xasskorn as an extremely dexterous drow with magical abilities would be an incredible smooth addition.

(Of course having such an allied assassin/espionage/infiltration group would indeed be sweet satisfaction to The Whitewhisper -Trias, you especially know why).

Indeed, Phaed'dyiin will most pleased to see Aras again. Also, (making some assumptions on Argint's alignment/ethos here from the posts), it seems that are alignments all seem very compatable -rather than the previous group that had a CN in the group. (Nothing against Jasper or Dolmen, the concept was awesome -though someone like Phaed'yiin could only loathe the disgusting compost pile).

Dialexis, I sent a reply - So far, so good- we can keep her course of action. Even though Argint and Cern are taking an 'investigative' path, we'll just say that The Whitewhisper is more...proactive in her endeavors.

Also, thanks for volunteering to post mindspy - if/when you do get the time, please go ahead and do so.

Well, good news: I believe that X'boryn is going to come back and play as well (he also mentioned that another friend might like to join, but that is uncertain and is ultimately up to Trias).

Benyamin, here are those official feats and the Mindspy PrC:

ASSUME SUPERNATURAL ABILITY [GENERAL]

You learn to use a supernatural ability of an assumed form.
Prerequisite: Wis 13, ability to assume a new form magically.
Benefit: You learn to use a single supernatural ability of another kind of creature while assuming its form through polymorph spell or similar effect. The saving throw DC against this ability is based on your ability scores, not those of a standard creature of the kind whose form you have assumed. For a breath weapon, the saving throw DC is 10+ your Constitution modifier + 1/2 your HD (rounded down). For all other supernatural abilities, the saving throw, if any, DC is 10 + your Charisma modifier + 1/2 your HD (rounded down).
Using this alien ability is disorienting. You take a -2 penalty on all attack rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks. Additionally, in a stressful or demanding situation (such as combat), you must succeed on a Will save (DC 19) or be unable to use the ability.
Normal: Without this feat, you cannot use the supernatural abilities of a creatue whose form you assume.
Special: You can take this feat multiple times. You cannot apply it more than once to the same ability in order to improve the Will save DC. Each time you take the feat, it applies to a different special ability.

IMPROVED ASSUME SUPERNATURAL ABILITY [GENERAL]

You gain skill with using a supernatural ability of an assumed form.
Prerequisite: Wis 17, Assume Supernatual Ability, ability to assume a new form magically.
Benefit: This feat functions like Assume Supernatural Ability, except that you do not take the -2 penalty on all attack rolls, saves, skill checks, and ability checks when using it.
Special: You can take this feat multiple times, but you cannot apply it more than once to the same special ability. Each time you take the feat, it applies to a different special ability

QUICK CHANGE [GENERAL]

You can shift to an alternate form faster and more easily than you otherwise could.
Prerequisite: Dex 15, alternate form special quality.
Benefit: The time it takes for you to change forms is reduced as follows.

Normal: Standard Action -reduces to: Move-equivalent action.
Normal: Move-equivalent action -reduces to: Swift-action.

This feat cannot reduce the time it takes to change forms less than the time required for a swift action.

So good news is that there are some cool Doppleganger-gravy feats.

Bad news is that you can't already be doing supernatural abilities (such as a Half-Dragon's breath weapon). Also, you can't even assume the form of a Half-Dragon -its against the rules since the Doppleganger's Change Shape ability does not allow it to take the forms of Templated creatures (see the SRD for reference or the MM index/glossary).

Not trying to burst your bubble -Argint is still super-cool. (But he's even cooler when he accomplishes what he does fairly and by the rules).

I'll post the Mind-spy later (its in the Complete Warrior if you have it). It has a sample Doppleganger for it too! (I'm saying you should pick up the PrC, but might want to take a look at it).

Change Shape (straight from SRD)

A creature with this special quality has the ability to assume the appearance of a specific creature or type of creature (usually a humanoid), but retains most of its own physical qualities. A true seeing spell or ability reveals the creature’s natural form. A creature using change shape reverts to its natural form when killed, but separated body parts retain their shape. A creature cannot use change shape to take the form of a creature with a template. Changing shape results in the following changes to the creature:

* The creature retains the type and subtype of its original form. It gains the size of its new form.
* The creature loses the natural weapons and movement modes of its original form, as well as any extraordinary special attacks of its original form not derived from class levels (such as the barbarian’s rage class feature).
* The creature gains the natural weapons, movement modes, and extraordinary special attacks of its new form.
* The creature retains all other special attacks and qualities of its original form, except for breath weapons and gaze attacks.
* The creature retains the ability scores of its original form.
* Except as described elsewhere, the creature retains all other game statistics of its original form, including (but not necessarily limited to) HD, hit points, skill ranks, feats, base attack bonus, and base save bonuses.
* The creature retains any spellcasting ability it had in its original form, although it must be able to speak intelligibly to cast spells with verbal components and it must have humanlike hands to cast spells with somatic components.
* The creature is effectively camouflaged as a creature of its new form, and gains a +10 bonus on Disguise checks if it uses this ability to create a disguise.
* Any gear worn or carried by the creature that can’t be worn or carried in its new form instead falls to the ground in its space. If the creature changes size, any gear it wears or carries that can be worn or carried in its new form changes size to match the new size. (Nonhumanoid-shaped creatures can’t wear armor designed for humanoid-shaped creatures, and viceversa.) Gear returns to normal size if dropped.

Ah, now I see the restriction. Thanks, Dialexis, for the heads up. Guess I scanned over that section and read the bullet points more closely, as they had the pertinent in-game break down. Anywho, guess Eldreesh won't be coming around any more. Sad

Ah no problem.

But actually, if Trias doesn't mind, I don't care if he lets you "be/have" Eldreesh. The only thing is that he wouldn't have wings, since medium half-dragons don't have wings (only Large or bigger ones do).

As for picking up the breath weapon, just pick up the Assume Supernatural Ability Feat.

True, though never quite understood the size restriction on dragon wings when half the other temps had wings.

Anywho, that sounds good, 'cept the Wis restriction would be a problem. Ol' Argint doesn't have that high enough at the moment. Such is the life of a character. Laughing out loud
