Tentative ToC for Issue 2

Prisine or Kylie Conversions (My fault, but I'm confused about art on this one - sorry)
MythMage - Dicefreaks article, ideally art will be provided.
One of Rip's Planar Metropoli (would need art)
Killing the Lady of Pain part II(have art and article)
Log X (need to decide on planet and then get art, possibly use public domain stuff)

Given our layout editor's time constraints decided to move the Prisine Conversions and decided to save the Modron art from the first Issue. This gives us a bit of slack for Issue 2, given that time is obviously going to a bottle neck for all of us.

I also want to lower the page count to about 15-18 pages, allowing us to hopefully give Mogget time for layout.

Anyway, as always none of this is written in stone. Feel free to suggest changes in methodology and apologies for making some "executive" decisions here.

Edit: Mogget made a good point, that splitting up the Killing Lady article might be more annoying that interesting. Since he's the layout editor, I figure if he doesn't mind taking on the extra pages it's cool. So we'll set that article to wrap up in Issue 2 which is good since I have a second Lady Picture for that.

Still going to try to keep these shorter that 20 pages, at least until we can get art for articles at a faster rate which ideally means more artists 'cause I know how hard y'all work!

Angel Mouse (Anerta providing)
Planar Renovation Project Sample: Bytopia (public domain art)
Killing Lady of Pain part II (art done)
Loki's Aasimar character w/ stats
Kylie conversion (Anerta providing art)
Planar Traits <- Loki mentioned these for Issue 2, will have to double check.

Apologies for any assumptions, let me know if you have issues!

I decided to save Log X: Aluna for a subsequent issue as this one isn't suffering for lack of content or art.

I'll be expanding the On the Banks article so it'll be 5-7 pages.

Killing Lady is about 5-6 pages, bringing us up to, say, 12 pages.

Angel Mouse is a page, maybe slightly smaller, and the Sample for Bytopia is about the same.

With everything else, including the intro which will be talking about celestials and D&D, we'll likely be between 14 and 20 pages. Seems like a good fit to me.

I'll be compiling the planar traits and adding a number of Upper Plane specific new ones. Should be two or three pages tops.

I have a layout person who might be willing to help Mogget out with some of the heavy lifting. Waiting on word back.

I also think that Wolfgang was right, we need to convert to a standard two collumn layout like the various splatbooks.

Excuse me now, I ave to Save vs. Landlord.

I've discovered I can save mulit-page pdfs from photoshop, so I could definitely do layout stuff if we need.

If I can get word on what file dimensions we want, I can make some pretty backgrounds and other graphics, too.

Two columns would be better if we continue to use that very lonng file length and slim width, but if we used a page size closer to the old 8x10, three columns would likely look much better than it did in issue one. When I get home from work today I'll make mock pages at both page dimensions, to compare.

Three columns are something I'm against on general principles.

As to Photoshop, we can produce far superior pdfs using other software. Waiting on word about that from my graphic designer.

Sounds good. Clueless was definitely right about keeping to a quarterly schedule, we're way ahead of ideal release dates so I'll check in with Mogget and see what his time tables are.

We may want photoshop to add the summaries and masthead to the cover, like Anerta did in the sample.

Some things I propose we should have in all issues going forward are the following:

Planar Links -> inspirational stuff around the Web, ideally covering planar releases we're aware of, comics, art, etc.

What's Happening at Planewalker -> Quick intro into some of the hotter threads people are working on.

Resources -> This should be a collection of links (with summaries) to things like Lady's Sharper Eye, Desire and the Dead, etc.

Cover should certainly be Photoshopped, I agree. Then import it into the layout in Illustrator.

Haha no photoshop is definitely not ideal software for creating pdfs. I just meant that if we get into a bind and can't get ahold of anyone else, I can fandangle something together after all.

Two columns vs three columns isn't really something I have a meaningful opinion on. I do feel that the issue with the three column layout was that we used it in conjunction with a very long and thin page, which resulted in a lot of scrolling down, then up, then down again, then back up again.

Regardless of what else we do, we probably want page dimensions where most people can comfortably see a whole page on the screen at the same time. If this isn't a thing that is happening, then minimizing columns is what we want.

Sciborg, I think those are great ideas but we will have to be very careful about what welre endorsing in the zine. This isn't an issue where it concerns hilighting things that are happening on planewalker, but as we start showcasing off-site items we have to make sure we're linking to the source of the media and not a mirror or an image sharing website; we should be especially wary of tumblr accounts, for example.

Just hit me, if Dark Roads is getting released this year (I'm 99.99999% sure it is) we should get an interview with Dan Voyce for Issue 2. Ideally we can use the cover for the art so it's sort of a freebie.

I also like the idea of promoting Dark Roads via Planescape *and* drawing Open Design people to download the zine and hopefully get more into Planescape.

eta: I can also largely reuse the questions I asked Shemmy in Issue 1 so really there's little work on our end for that interview.

Integrating the aasimar is cool, but not necessary. I just appreciate that we have people doing art for these.

Sadly relearning multivariable and diffy q's took precedence over solidifying the Pathfinder and 4e rules in my head, but I'm going to try and contribute more to the crunch side as time goes on.

Yeah 4e is still our biggest weakness right now. I have Pathfinder basically down, but 4e is incomprehensible madness!

4e seems to be drawing near to the end of its days, though, with the 5e playtest getting underway. I'm not saying we shouldn't support 4e if we can, for as long as we can, but afaik even Kobold Quarterly is starting to question how long they'll keep up their 4e support. (Or so their facebook updates lead me to believe -- what inside sources I have!)

Oh, I'm working on a (free) 4e Feywild project, so have to learn the rules anyway.

Someone did agree to do art for Kobold Avenger's 4e kamarel stats, so we'll have those in the future for 4e content.

@Anerta -> Good point about tumblrs and other aggregating sites.

It might nice for us to promote artists here and there, as well as projects by lesser known designers but good to do so directly and avoid any trouble.

Yeah, the HA write up ended up being about 2000 words plus art. I want to do at least two more races and there may be more if I get time. These race articles are deceptively big.

On that note, however, Sci it may be easier for you to just put what races I've done for each article since I'm doing everything including art. I'm not going to post a race until I've got it written and illustrated.

@Dagon: That makes sense. Note though that 2000 words is 2-3 pages, so I wouldn't do any more than three.

@Everyone:

I was going to add some more to Banks on the Oceanus b/c I was worried about this issue being too thin. I think there are sections that need more meat still given it has three images but I think I'll keep it close to the same page count.

I'm not too worried about artwork increasing the page count though for our layout person's sake I don't want to expand this out too much.

I really hope to get a Wolfgang interview in. There's been good synergy between us and KQ so far and I think it's good for planar gaming to promote Dark Roads.

I also want a resources page, and a shout out to some of the discussions here. The latter I'll probably put into the intro.

Thankfully we're still ahead of schedule, but ideally I'd like to get more work done on Issue 3 and 4.

Ideally sometime next week we'll have some language figured out for the use of art. I'm rather relieved we have art largely done for 2, and so want to try and be ahead of the game for 3 through 6.

Let me know if you need more art along the same lines as angel mouse, that one was actually really quick and therapeutic to do. *Is basically an expert on drawing celestial and fiendish animals now, due to Some Things That Fell Throughâ„¢.*
