"What have you come here for?"
The dark voice echoed through the cavern halls as well as through Jinrik's mind.

Slowly, the glabrezu approached. "Wisdom," he replied. "And change."

"Show your offerings, and I shall judge if you may ask your questions and state your wishes."

The tanar'ri took the chest he brought along and placed it in front of the legendary creature. With a single claw, he opened it, presenting the beating hearts of twelve Celestian proxies.

Superion looked down on him. "You may ask two questions. You may also state your wish of change, but it shall only be fulfilled after you pass an examination of your soul."

The Upper Planes have more spiritual guides than an Arborean Flufftree has cherries. Every little lantern archon, petitioner and even the high-ups have someone to talk to when they are in a crisis.

On the Lower Planes, it's not as easy: If you don't trust anyone, you don't tell anyone of your weaknesses and problems. Yet, even fiends need the occasional guidance. There are beings that fill the gap, but few of them survive longer than a millennium or two.

One exception is Superion. What he is, even the fiends don't know. He somewhat resembles a fifteen-feet large ultroloth, but with a scaly skin and a lizardous face.

Superion is said to be only slightly younger than Sigil, and rumours tell he has been a guide for the dark souls from the beginning on. He listens to their problems and their pleas, and obviously has the power to fulfill almost any wish, as long as it affects only the applicant himself.

While Superion does nothing without a valuable offer, and often gives the creatures coming to him hard tests (which not all of them survive), few believe the offers are his reason to aid the fiends. What his true motivations are, though, is left in the dark.

Interestingly, he rarely helps anyone but a real fiend: Mortals, undead, even divine proxies that come to him asking for guidance rarely leave his Eternal Cave alive (usually, they don't leave it at all anymore). Only once every few millennia, he makes an exception, for reasons known only to him.

Despite his seemingly ultimate wisdom and his ability to fulfill any wish centered only on the wisher himself, Superion is not invulnerable to attacks. And of course, through all the time of his existence, there have been countless attempts to destroy him.

Still, he survived all of them. Why?

As a legendary guide of the Lower Planes, he has made many powerful allies, and many other powerful beings consider him important for their own plans or for the balance of Evil. He is protected by many fiends and even a couple of gods and other powers; anyone attempting to destroy Superion should prepare for fighting more powerful enemies than even a single god could handle.

Another mystery of Superion is his Eternal Cave. Noone truly knows where it is; there are gates to his home from all of the Lower Planes, but noone has ever entered the Cave the direct way. Also, even divine magic can't help in locating the Cave. There are rumours that even tell the Eternal Cave is located on the border of the Far Realm, but that is probably really just a rumour.

I like. The Cave (and the encounter with Superion for fiends) could make a nice site writeup.

Thanks Smiling

It was inspired by 'Buffy - the Vampire Slayer'. There's this scene where Spike, the vampire, seeks some mystical monster to change himself, and he's got to pass various tests to get what he wants. After watching that episode, I realized I never read anything similar for Planescape, so I wanted to fill the gap Smiling
