Studio Project

Hello Friends,

I'm working on development of a Planescape-inspired concept with my fledgling studio group on Facebook for future presentation as a possible graphic novel series, and I'm trying to decide whether to make it an official Planescape product or to remain independent by eliminating any copyrighted references. Who holds the copyright for the Planescape (2E-derived) material, and what are your suggestions? Would anyone be interested in joining this project? I need trustworthy people who are familiar with the PSCS, (ideally) literarily well-versed, willing and able to make the time investment, and who won't take our materials and modify them for their own purposes.

Sincerely,
Dyr

Yon otter, sleek-wet, black, lithe as a leech;
Yon auk, one fire-eye in a ball of foam,
That floats and feeds; a certain badger brown
He hath watched hunt with that slant white-wedge eye
By moonlight; and the pie with the long tongue
That pricks deep into oakwarts for a worm,
And says a plain word when she finds her prize,
But will not eat the ants; the ants themselves
That build a wall of seeds and settled stalks
About their hole—He made all these and more,
Made all we see, and us, in spite: how else? - excerpted from "Caliban Upon Setibos" by Robert Browning

Re: Studio Project

WotC has the copyright for PS.

I doubt they will allow official PS-Stuff, especially 2nd Ed. They are actually only selling 4th ed, they don't even allow the pdfs of old editions to be officially sold.

The difference between 4th ed and 2nd ed PS is not only a matter of gamerules, a fact that would hardly matter in a grafic novel. 4th ed has another cosmology and it has another alignment system.

So you'll have to stay independant, I think.

Re: Studio Project

Thank you kindly, Mask. It seems I now have some pondering to do on how best to proceed.

Let me know if there's anything I can do to repay the favor. It looks like I owe you one.

Re: Studio Project

If you're planning on making a profit, I'd avoid any references to Planescape.
