Starting off: Things to do.

We need to get a few things to start off with.

- We need people to help make the game. (If you are willing and are committed to the project say so here, I'll jot you down in my notes)

-We need a game engine to actually run the game on(I know from your posting, Rebenaas that we may have one, state that here so I can jot it to my notes.)

- We need to start designing Sigil.(People please, someone pick a general location, like a ward, district and street, and we'll focus our efforts to mesh that out first. I want someone else to pick as I want the game to be a joint effort, not just me)

- We need artists on board. (For concept sketches, character design etc)

- Programmers (Absolutly critical! No script no game!)

- Music (Any composers you know or if you are, sent me some toonskies ambience is critical)

- Loyalty to the project( Put in at least an hour of your time a week, AT LEASY, create, write, program, improve, or what have you to make the project as quickly as smoothly and as painlessly as possible)

- Quality assurance (Testers for you laymen, we want it to be bug free)

- Foley (Sound effects would add an awesome element to the game)

- 100% (If your not satisfied with your work, do it till you are, I won't accept second rate and neither should you)

Please feel free to add anything to this list, or any helpful ideas you think would help the project.

Chapter 7, pg 22:

Quote:

Guild of Doorsnoops
Formed shortly after the disintegration of the factions by the prime mage and Anarchist Lissandra the Gateseeker (NG female human Wiz 11). Already well versed in many of the portals of Sigil, she and her associates became invaluable in the months after the Tempest of Doors. During that period, they spent their time discovering the fates of older portals, and the locations, destinations, and keys for innumerable new portals. With the factions no longer present to bar the public sale of portal logs (as was common practice when they gave themselves a monopoly on the knowledge of most any but the commonly known and widely used portals) there is a rising business in the trade of knowledge and upkeep of that knowledge regarding the portals of the Cage. As this business waxes, Lissandra and her colleagues are riding its coattails more so than any other.

The guild symbol is a ring or broach detailed with a silver doorway, usually with a swirling pattern inside it. Members pay a fee of 5 silver pieces monthly, and in return are given access to portal keys at cost, or for free when investigating the details of portals on guild sponsored business.

The current guild headquarters is situated within the former tavern known as the Ubiquitous Wayfarer, formerly the site of a number of extremely popular and well-trafficked portals. Shortly after the Tempest of Doors, most of its portals ceased functioning and its business plummeted. Despite its attempt to prosper in the face of the loss of its main draw, and in the process renaming itself Portal Schmortal, it went bankrupt and was eventually sold to Lissandra herself. A certain irony perhaps, but the site has served the guild well in their short stay within their new home, though Lissandra herself is usually off on some foray, despite being the group’s guild mistress.

Found it! Encyclopedia Entry: "The Ubiquitous Wayfarer is a tavern in the Lower Ward."

That gives opportunities to have A'kin nearby, the Foundry, and a number of poorer ghettos. Also there's the known Below areas in this area as well as lingering trauma from the "Key Incident".

Any chance we can get a FAQ thread up and have it sticky'ed at the top for new comers and wanders to quickly get up to speed with??

And a question to put on the FAQ - is PSonline gonna be pre or post faction war?

Good idea Kal. Smiling People, start frequently asking me questions here and I'll do my best to answer them.

EDIT: Also, with a web site being needed (sorry but I have no skill other than dreamweaver Puzzled ) we also need to design a logo for PSOnline - Zeniel prehaps a thread for displaying ideas?

I would add in the FAQ a note re: questions to be answered once there's something up and going. Eye-wink That whole "get something-anything going as a proof of concept - then figure out the rest of the details" idea.

Kal -> I don't believe they've addressed that one as the development group is still working on the bigger problems of getting a game up at all. It's probably a question better answered with some player input after an initial minimalistic launch of the game itself.

Strange as it sounds, its actually sort of important, with my initial concept for the game mechanics, i am thinking of heavily using faction reputations to gain additional skills suitable for each faction, with the balance of available skills to a character maintained via a dynamic reputation influences between the factions (ie gain some reputation with the hard heads, your'll loose some reputation with the chaos men).

Not a problem Smiling Are you planning to make sure to include non-belief factions as well like guilds and other organizations? (Talk to A'kin, lose rep with Shemmy?) If so it could be a useful dynamic in a generic way to measure for quests and the like - that way it would be handy to have regardless of time period.

And there are factions post-Faction War too - just not *openly* holding power in the city, so it's still a needed function really either way the question is answered, right?

Yes, when I say Faction within that context, i do expanded it to include other organisations, within and beyond Sigil. I will try and come up with a more fitting terminolagy (spelling?) for it to reduce confusion.

As to post war - yeah I now, but I've only read the basics on them, I've never run with them, so I'm just more comfortable with pre war factions, thats all.

Perhaps organization? As factions would fall under that classification? Dunno.

Ah yes, KISS

very good, within my documentation of the project Orgnisation shall refer to all factions, sects, npc businesses etc that characters may interact with and gain/lose reputation and rewards Smiling

Just a thought...

...what if we set PSOnline before cannon planescape, before the Lady's Decree that set the number of Factions to 15? Thereby, player created guilds would be Factions, and a major part of the game would be for a (player) Faction to gain power, resources, members etc against other (player) Factions?

Could this set up work post faction war?

would this kind of set up work at all?

You surely get my vote for that. But I would say that players start with sects that develop into factions.

And then you can keep the various guilds or factions in check by threatening to release "The Lady's Edict" expansion.
