Sigil and the Megacorps

I've just recently discovered the Shadowrun RPG, and it has a very believable aspect that might fit into UPS as well. Instead of the factions having a large impact og Sigilian life and politics, it might be the corporations instead. Huge conglomerate companies with enourmous political pull. Manufacturers, media companies, telecommunications. What impact would huge companies like these have on the planes? I think this could be explored. What are the major companies operating in Sigil? Who makes the vehicles? Who makes the news? Who constructs the buildings? Who transports goods and materials into Sigil from other planes?

It leaves lots of oppurtunities for PC choice too. A PC coulld work for a Corp, sabotauging competing companies and participating in corporate intrigue. Or on the other hand, they could be against all that corporate BS and "fight the power".

Any thoughts on this?

For my wiritngs on UPs,

For my wiritngs on UPs, yes, cyberpunk themes do have a place - check out my post on the Sigil government (aka The Senate) - its basically run by megacorps and their 'sponsored' employees for the most.

Its also worth considering that Megacorps and Fations dont always have to be 2 different things - the current Factol of the Fated (Griffon) is the head of one of the largest Megacorps on the planes, and though that corp (Valor Inc) is not a 'faction' corp, it generates a lot of power and cash for Griffon and those faction members who can earn that cash from him.....

...so if a group wanted to, they could focus on more classic cyberpunk motives/story arches of corporate espionage etc or run with the classic themes of planescape of philopsy and belief, or combine both...

EDIT Another major player in sigil is the faction Revealing Light - it uses media to convay information to the masses and I imagine it has significant corporate holdings in the media industry...

Why am I not suprised. I didn't actually think about factions turning into companies, but it makes sense.

My kinda UPS game would be a combination of Planescape's ideas of belief and philosophy, with a little gritty cyperpunk thrown in. I mean, if I wanted to play pure cyberpunk, I'd just play Shadowrun.
