Yuppers. Shadow. As in, Tide of -, not the plane of -.
How're we treating that? I mean, I assume Earth would have done something about the one still-open highway into the Shadow-prime. Is it even still there? I mean, it was created because Earth had to be connected. Did it disappear after contact was regained with the Astral?

Please pardon the question, as I am rather new around here--

Are we using the Urban Arcana assumptions about magic and demihumans for Urban Planescape?

It was one of my least favorite aspects of the setting, and I think that it would present some unpalatable concepts in Earth history-- the lack of reliable accounts of supernatural events, despite relatively recent magical cycles, for instance.

Also, wouldn't the use of Shadow Prime tend to force Earth into a more central role than is desired, as the only Prime Material world? Or are there multiple Primes, of which Earth is just one? If so, do other Primes have Shadow (or non-Shadow) versions? If Shadow simply "went away" after we restore contact with the Astral, would all of the previously-extant non-humans simply be revealed for their true natures? What effect would that have on society?

I suspect that we would be better off avoiding such issues and stick with real Earth having been previously non-magical.

Last I checked, Russian cosmonauts entered the Astral some twenty years after the publication of Shadow(At least, the mage on the team made a note about not being able to reach Shadow from the Astral in the short story about it.).

Also, on the subject of prime worlds: Earth was cut off from the Astral due to a Gityanki artifact. The excess belief Earth still created eventually manifested into Shadow(At least, that's how I view it). The rest of the Prime was spared from the barrier. Well, as far as we know.
Also, I'm ready to bet you that I'm newer than you are.

Perhaps Shadow was some kind of Githyanki Super weapon, related to the barrier? In preparation for the attack they wanted to cause chaos by transplanting other species onto the planet - and then turned it off when they attacked, because they didn't want a balor arriving in the middle of things...

Nah. Far as the Gith knew, everything on the other side of the barrier was dead. They didn't even attack untill we managed to find a weak spot in the barrier(And the whupping their rear ends recieved was sung of by boy-bands for ages to come).
