Ok! Requests are updated

Ok! Requests are updated now!

I've gone through my archives of stuff recieved and updated the list with what I've got / don't got / would like to see other versions of. I'll be doing some email rounds to check on the volunteer artists, so if you're still with me - expect to get an email shortly. I'll be asking for such mundane things as names to credit, deviant pages, and or print (aka make-a-profit) pages to link to.

Please note if you had laid claim to a piece that had "In progress" on it - and you've yet to get it to me... then I've labeled it open for claiming at this point - I sorta need these on a relatively fast time scale so I can't wait too long on em. :-/ You're still more than welcome to get it in - it's just more of a first-come first-served deal now.

WOOT!

I'd like to stake a claim on the Fiendish Magic Ritual and the Celestial Magic Ritual Laughing out loud I've had my eye on them since I saw this list and I'm glad they're up for grabs.  I'll put Justinian and Sebazzar doing some magic in them.

Go for it guys! Smiling The 'what we need' post has links to the chapters, also can be found here: /editorial-section/30/35-pscs . In there you should be able to find the description of the thing being illustrated. If you have trouble finding it let me know and I'll hunt it down. If there's a critter/group mentioned and you're not familar with it - ask and I'll describe personality and all that fuss. Eye-wink

I was curious as to what

I was curious as to what level of finish and polish you are looking for in these pieces?  I did this one in about 10 minutes, but I am totally willing to add more to it.  If you like the base sketchy feel to it though, you can feel free to use the piecture in it's current state.  I can email the high rez picture to you.

Sketch for one of the slots

Sketch for one of the slots I claimed.  Sorry it's coming slowly! I'll be coloring this and the fiendish magic on my own soon.

This is for the celestial magic picture.  I'm using Justinian, my Planetar character.

Here's a bit of the magic circle I'll be using.  I'll put some magic runes and enochian script on there to make it more mystical!

I'm still a clueless, so I

I'm still a clueless, so I don't know how it is going this stuff. Anyway, I use to make drawings sometimes of the adventures, so maybe I can help. I'm not great drawing, but I can defend myself.

I've just created de DeviantArt page, so there are just a few drawings to show.

 http://inkoia.deviantart.com/

 2 drawings related to planescape:

http://inkoia.deviantart.com/art/The-Abyss-moving-its-pieces-118070503

http://inkoia.deviantart.com/art/Lothar-Consulting-117903377

Personally,  and to make the drawings faster, I rather do them in the style of the drawing of Lothar, fast pencil and fast colouring (And it gets more the look and feel to those drawings in the planescape official books.).

Feel free to give your opinions, even the bad ones, I like the people who can say face to face that he doesn't like something, hehe.

Me & Squaff are claiming all

Me & Squaff are claiming all Factioneers pictures! Wink I just phoned him about it and he even kept some sketches from the last time we did concepts.

  • Believers of the Source - a stereotypical character of one race acting stereotypically like a completely different race (prime races) -DONE
  • Bleak Cabal - shady drunkard paladin with a dark past hanging over him
  • Fated - gladiator girl from Athas with a "Crocodile Dandy" hat and possibly an archaic sharpshooters crossbow -DONE
  • Fraternity of Order - a grim modron judge -DONE
  • Free League - a flind(noble gnoll race) nursing a baby Satyr
  • Mercykillers -
  • Mind's Eye -
  • Ring-Givers - greedy merchant with an "I owe you" book -DONE
  • Sign of One -
  • Society of Sensation - a blind Vistani(cursed gypsy race) dancer girl with a violin
  • Sons of Mercy -
  • Transcendent Order - a bariauress meditating during her breakfast ceremony wearing a bathrobe Sticking out tongue

Thats for ideas and sketches we've done so far.

Here's a tentative finish

Here's a tentative finish for the Celestial Magic.  I'll probably play with the background more, make it more vectored and adjust the circle perspective more.  My next job is Fiendish Magic and after that, I'll likely start taking on feats and spells.

Very nice "Center of All"!

Very nice "Center of All"! Superb concept.

Just a constructive critique(sorry if I seem rude, my English isn't perfect since I'm a foreigner) - Isn't he missing a brow and a buttock line? I've seen him on the starting page of planewalker and he's a bit more detailed(uh, I'm not trolling or anything).

It's okay, I understand Smiling

There's a ridge for the brow on the side of his face, though it's small and hard to see.  I have tried several different ways of shading his eye sockets but I can't seem to get it to look right.  Buttock line...I suppose, though I am going to tack that down to an "oops" and probably leave it Eye-wink Too many layers, too much of a headache for me to make change like that right now.

By the by, I really, really like the Warden Drape picture in your photobucket gallery.

As I've pointed out, I mostly pimp Squaff's pictures on this site (because erotic art is a prohibited here. And I suppose I don't have an online gallery because all of my art is more than 8 years old and I should improve my style).

I'm currently working on my photographic skills, because I plan to do collage in the future. So there will be a few of original Planescape pictures of my own to post in the future.

Duster:

re: Sign of One - I think they got missed cause I just forgot to include them. Smiling So add em to the list

If you and Squaff are looking for yet more art to do - there's also a lot of Faction Prestigue classes that could use some artwork too Eye-wink

Center:

Looking good - With the dark sky background like that I'll probably need to make that image afull page piece or figure out a good frame work to go around it on a quarter page. Was that about what you had in mind for it too? The only artistic critism that comes to mind for me is to take a second look at yourlineweights. It looks like the inner and the outer line weights when you inked are the same - I'd be curious what it looked like if the outer edge line weights (the important ones) were heavier, or did the thickened middle thinner ends thing that you see in a lot of line work out there.

Actually, I am probably

Actually, I am probably going to adjust the colors of the lines to make them present but less immediately noticeable Smiling This isn't done quite yet, but I wanted to throw it out and say "Hey, I am really working on this like I said!"  And yeah, I was thinking this one and the fiendish magic would be "full page spreads" while most of the rest of what I do, especially the feats/spells pictures, will be mostly background-less so they can easily be dropped into a page.

@Center of All: I like it.

@Center of All: I like it. Anyway, have you tried to make the lines of the drawing thicker or to change them to another color? It's nothing important, just I see the lines a little bit pixeled and being so thin the effect they are causing on me is strange... or maybe it's just me! ;P

Not having feedback of the previous ones, I've understood you haven't like them, so I have made another proposition, with more effort.

The idea is a Zenythri woman (she is a woman even if she looks more a male, hehe), a Doomguard Sinker Swordmaster, performing an attack round after Entropy's Servant move. Blood is in different layer, so can be removed to fit all audiences, but not recommendable, ;P. (bigger size for download here: http://inkoia.deviantart.com/art/Doomguard-Sinker-Swordmaster-119490790 )

Doomguard Sinker Swordmaster

PD: I know that the painting style of the bleaknik I've proposed can find a lot of enemies. Anyway, I was thinking that maybe it would be a nice idea, that some landscapes of the manual would be painted by a Bleaknik character, with a quotation next to it describing the moment, paintings that would be parts of his travels in the multiverse.

Hi there~  New artist

Hi there~  New artist here. I wanted to do some art for you guys. If it says open for claiming yet has someone's name by it, that means that it is not actually open, right? I just wanted to check. Let me know if some of these, are in fact, taken and I will change what I have down.

Here is my deviant art site: http://pegacorna2.deviantart.com/ if you'd like to see what I have done.

I will get the following done by May 15th:

Functional Wings ..................... Open for Claiming

Dice on a table .............. Open for Claiming A Very Large Dragon (Chronepsis) ....... Open for Claiming

Once I am done with this short list, I will focus on helping you guys with landscapes. If you feel a need to tell me what you have priorities on, feel free Smiling

Um, well.

Taking this: "One illustration per Faction Prestige Class .........All are Open for Claiming" I'd like to do for the moment One prestige class per faction. Right now I'm working with the Dustmen Corpse Animator. I will make a precise list later if needed. I will try to correct and detail the sinker swordmaster, and improve the Athar Infidel Crusader. I'd left in peace the Bleaknik one, ;P.

I could also remake my drawings of Ironridge and The Abyss. ( http://inkoia.deviantart.com/art/Ironridge-118474722 and http://inkoia.deviantart.com/art/The-Abyss-moving-its-pieces-118070503 )

Hi,   I'm sorta new

Hi,

I'm sorta new *shy wave*. I 've been wanting to do some art work for Planewalker, but school devoured my time. I'm currently setting up a Deviant Art account and I'll post a link to some of my work there. I wanted to give Palace of the Jester and Chains of Water a shot if they're not already taken. I really enjoy drawing character concepts and landscapes as well.

Thanks!

Update from me: The semester's almost over and with that should be a lot more free time so I'll have more pictures coming through the pipeline after mid-May.

Just a heads-up that I am working on the Fiendish Magic picture, just having some trouble with the perspective I want to use.  I'm also hitting the end-of-semester muck, so I'll be quite busy and less artsy for a couple of weeks.  I'm also still ready to get elbows-deep in the spells (and prolly the feats) once that's done Smiling

Here's a new factioneer by

Here's a new factioneer by Squaff:

 Fated Factioneer

She's a prime planewalker from Athas, tough looking loner. A survival professional.

On her right arm is a spearchucking mechanical glove of sorts and it has a Faction symbol puppet good luck charm on it. I guess she entered planes from one of those elemental vortices and somehow managed to get to Sigil.

Next factioneer in queue is a Ring Giver.

@Clueless: Should I email you a higher resolution picture right away, or when I get a few more pictures(so I send all of them)?

@Center Of All: It's better not to say anything, every student is more productive at the end of the semester (I guess that's your case) ;P. I like the drawing, specially body and hands.

@Duster: I think you have the same problem I had. Probably you are posting with "filtered HTML". Check "Input format" below the "text area" to write, and select "Full HTML". BTW, I like the DesertWarrior-CocodrileHunter style of the factioneer, hehe.

Here are the rest of teh factioneers, Clueless already posted most of these in the Factions art gallery, but there is a Xaositect unpublished picture(the factioneer is just a kid in that one).

@Clueless & other editors/mods: I'll write a short background story for all of the factioneers just for fun, when all of them are done. So if you want  you can include those in the gallery.

I wants in! Is the list on page 1 of this thread up to date?

I'm thinking of claiming the Feats and Skills sections and doing them in some Planescapeish form of the Fallout Pipboy. Laughing out loud

Also, I'd like to do some items, and characters, and... hah, a bit of everything!

And question: will these, and when, be incorporated in the 3.5 conversion files (PDF)? The b&w design (even with the 'razorvine' margins) is rather bland, I'd much like to finally see some illustrations and design in there. Smiling

Your work looks a bit familiar.  Did you ever do anything at the Fraternity of Shadows?

Anyway, as far as I'm aware, the list is mostly up to date.  Though you'll have some competition for the feats/skills section since I'm planning to start working on some of those and some spells here pretty soon Eye-wink

As promised the next

As promised the next factioneer is done:

Ring-Givers Factioneer

This ancient thiefling with some goblin blood in his gut is one of the most devious loan sharks to prowl the Hive & Lower Ward.

His luck has grown since the new tax laws in Sigil have been set. Since there aren't any Fated left, it is not only his job to take back what he's given(with interests), but his way of life.

I'm not sure wich faction is next in order (or in chaos) to be done. Soceity of Sensation or Fraternity of Order...

Ok, hi everyone - first -

Ok, hi everyone - first - my apologies for staying so quiet for so long on this thread. I'm in the middle of moving house to new kip, and I'm just not keeping up as I should overall.

First - let me get replies to all the newcomers, along with some basic art guideline / crits for those what've asked:

inkoia : Via PM cause I went into detail Eye-wink

Korvus: Nice modron! Yes - please, we would like you working on this with us - just let us know what you'll be working on - I look forward to seeing more

pegacorna: open for claiming with someone's name beside it generally means yes, someone's got it - but the work is not yet in my hands. Breaking out from equines I take it?

inkoia : re: redoing the landscapes - if you would like to, please do, they would definitely need the remake before going in. I think you've got a better feel now for the level of detail and color values needed now.

maatsgarden : I've got water chains so I'll update the list with that Smiling I adore the khasta's sulk

center: molydeus's have Always freaked me out...

duster: *GLEE!* More Duster/Squaff dynamic faction duo pics! My answer re: your email question is below.

cuatha: I hate to be the bearer of bad news :-/ One of the reasons why we have the artdrive thread on the forums here is because of our agreement with WotC. We're allowed to update the setting to 3rd, 4th and generally support it as a fan site but we aren't allowed to plagiarize - aka, no copy-and-paste of their text into our updated texts. As far as I understand it that also applies to artwork as well. So your cover, while very nifty, is one I'm not going to be able to use. I'm really sorry, and I hate to see the work go to waste. We also have a cover for the PSCS3 secured already, though not one yet for the PSCS4 nor an art thread for that work yet since the text is still being worked out - so keep the idea around and we may be able to make use of the concept later, ok?

domigorgon: The list on page 1 is mostly up to date, give or take a few dibs in the last few posts. I'm not familiar enough with Pipboy to have a feel for what you've got in mind - can I see a sample? I'd very much like to see it in action, to see how close it matches to where we were headed for art direction already. re: The work going into the PDF: This thread is specifically for the PSCS3 pdf releases, so what we get in here goes in the PDF - as for when: as we get chapters filled. There's a not insignificant amount of work to make sure that text lies correctly with images in place, so I try not to redo a chapter more than a few times to get another batch of art in place.

duster: Sensates rock Eye-wink I'm fond of the hedonists... admittedly, that's a large part of personal bias there for pretty bishi men. Eye-wink

everyone: Don't forget to claim your pieces so folks know what you're working on Eye-wink Ok - did I cover everyone? Are there lingering questions? Ask me now before the monster that is packing my book collection eats me alive! Eye-wink

Next - if you're going to lay claim to feats, spells, etc - let me know and I'll update the list on the thread. Mostly so you guys don't end up doubling up on something. If you have an idea for a spell or feat that isn't listed here - then post it up! My list isn't definitive, I just looked for what seemed nifty in the text I had, so if you see potential in another spell, let me know.

I'd love to see you guys work together, and help each other out with
critiques or suggestions for pieces - this is intended to be fun, so
don't hesitate to socialize Eye-wink I know there's a bunch of folks who are
up for 'spells' generically, so please - put your brains together and
see what we can get.

Last - I wanted to toss in a reminder: We're looking for quality but we aren't asking for masterwork pieces either. With as many pieces as are needed to flesh out the PSCS3 - there's something to be said for quantity - we would rather have 5 good pieces that you got in within a few weeks or months, than one piece that could hang in a museum that took 5 years. So if you're estimating that your piece will take a year+ you may want to reconsider your scope of work. Eye-wink

If you're curious what I need to do to get your work in the PSCS3 layout: What I am generally looking for is to be able to place the piece in a 4th or 8th of the page. Some pieces with more complex scenery (landscapes for example) would be ok for half pages so if you're aiming for a half page make sure your ratio of height to width makes that easy. I really can't put in a LOT of full page works, so consider those a special occasion piece.

If you're curious to see if your composition will work at a quarter or half page size, then I encourage you to crack open Word or Open Office and place the piece in amongst a whole bunch of text. That's the same thing I'm going to be doing. If you do that and find that the details of the picture are completely lost, you may want to revise the composition or check with me if a full page is possible at that spot in the PSCS3.

Re: Emailing the done piece - I would actually prefer if I got emailed the higher res version of your works individually. Please include chapter number and piece name in the subject line. It helps me track what's in and what's not in my email archives. Please include your name, the name you'd like to be credited under, and any webpage we should include in your credits for folks to contact you at. I plan to get all the pieces up in a gallery of work on the site as well - so we can get you some links back to your galleries, or dArt / Lulu print shops that way. Would it be easier for everyone if I regularly updated the list in a post on the thread here in addtion to tracking it on post #1 or would that just get more confusing?

Thanks Clueless! I kind

Thanks Clueless!

I kind of like going to post #1 to see the updated list. But having an updated list every few pages of posts wouldn't be bad either.

Duster:   I love the detail (the cracked fingernails are cool) and design of Ring Givers Factioneer and that facial expression as well-totally sneaky Eye-wink

I finished Chains of Water

I finished Chains of Water and thought i'd post it up. Still Working On: Palace of the Jester. Landscapes take me longer Eye-wink

I've put Chains of Water up at Deviant Art:

http://maatsgarden.deviantart.com/art/Water-Chains-122869182

I wanted to do a few more spells-to have a short series of them. I saw some folks were working on Spells as well, so please let me know there's any I've listed below that anyone wanted to do or have already claimed.  Some of these aren't from the list but I found them pretty interesting.

I wanted to do a few more elemental spells, since I've done one water one.
-Howl of Pandemonium (air)
-Planar Union (earth/forest)
And two more character driven pieces:
-Curious Courier.
-Talking Door.

@Clueless: If it's ok I'll

@Clueless: If it's ok I'll resend all of the higher resolution pictures. I've edited some of those and I don't remember which one I've sent before. Let me know if I've sent any of those in higher resolution before because my last hard drive crashed and I've lost a lot data and I had to back it up from the internet archives.

Anyway the Ring Giver factioneer is a bit smaller(he's a crouched goblinlike thiefling) than the other characters so keep that one in mind when putting them in books.

I'll do a group picture of all the factioneers together when they are all done so you can see all size differences between them.

Thanks for the comments Maatsgarden and here's a link of all the factioneers done up untill now. 10  more are left so Filip is only half way done, but he's gotten quicker & tidier (unless I nag with my ideas, then he gets slower).

@ maatsgarden : I'll get

@ maatsgarden : I'll get the list updated for you - I know some of the others were lookign at doing spells to, so I'll give them a little bit to pick their selections too so if someone wants to do more than one we can know

As a note - if there are two interested in the same picture, and one of your concepts would fulfill a requirement for something else on the list (like an illustration on a specific plane of someone casting a spell), then that might be a good way to let the artistic interest run free on the idea. Eye-wink

@ Duster - please do send those actually. It'll help me keep the collection in order and make sure that I have the most up to date ones. I have the others you sent me in Gmail.

And it would help everyone if I listed the email to send to - wouldn't it?  [REDACTED]

@Clueless: Sounds good ;)

@Clueless: Sounds good ;)  At the moment I've got some free time, so I'll start on Curious Courier and continue working on the landscape.

Your work looks a bit familiar.  Did you ever do anything at the Fraternity of Shadows?

No, it must've been someone else with a similar style... or you might've encountered me on dA before. Smiling

Kay, I'm thinking of doing these:

 1. Faction Prestige Classes. Won't be claiming any just now; I'll have to browse them a bit and see what I like. I'll probaly finish some sooner than anyone else can claim them.

 2.  As mentioned, I'd do Feats & Skills, but will first make a batch of examples to see if you'd like them as I imagined them.

3. Items & Equipment! I'll do the mimir, first off, and then some others that I find interesting and haven't been claimed. Again, can't say for sure until I give it a try. Smiling

4. You can definitely expect some Sigilian NPCs from me, and possibly a cityscape or location or two.

5. I have an idea about panoramic views of the planes in Chapter 8: The Planes and Beyond - horizontal headers to fit with each plane, done in a more loose and sketchy pencil, like in the official 3rd edition manuals at the start of each chapter (just not half-page, but quarter-page or less, top only). 'Course, I'd like to discuss the details before I do anything, though I will come up with an example.

Well, expect something from me soon.

I also have a question about deadlines - shouldn't there be some? I get the impression that some things get claimed but never finished. These should be back on the market (so to speak) eventually, no?

@domigorgon re: faction

@domigorgon

re: faction prestige classes - sounds good, just let me know which ones to keep an eye out for in email

re: feats & skills - please do - I want to make sure what you've got in mind is going to be compatible with the direction the art has taken so far. I look forward to seeing it Smiling

re:  items & eq- I'll update the list with the mimir claim Smiling

re: NPCs and Landscapes - yay!! You'd be surprised how hard it can be to find someone up for those

re: Panoramics - that sounds like an excellent format idea for those - so I'd go with it. I know maatsgarden was also looking at doing some landscapes so I'll check with her on if that sounds like a good format that she would like to use as well. Another possibility would be tall thin rectangles to the left or right of the text, but if we do both forms, we probably want a healthy mix of the two so it's not just one or two planes that stand out in that format. If you and maat both are comfortable with that range of formats I'll add that to the requirements for that chapter so anyone else who comes in will be on the same page.

And last - re: deadline - you're right, there should be one for these. I usually ask the artist to set what they can reasonably estimate as a deadline when they claim a work and go from there. I'll email or PM as the deadline creeps up and past - and I'm not evil about it, I understand limited time due to real life - we are a volunteer driven place after all. Eye-wink Otherwise I tend to start looking for someone else to work on a piece at about the 6mo period, and if the original artist gets it in later I'll try to find someplace that it can work. Waste not want not. What you see on the list does include some that have returned to the open claim pile due to not hearing back from an artist for quite some time. (Like - at all - I'm actually worried one of them may not be in the best of health right now because of how quiet he's been.)
