PSCS Chapter 6: Life in the Multiverse

This looks like a very good, mostly fluff product for the new Planescape campaign setting. I thought the planar materials were particularly interesting, as was the section on planar services detailing the types of trade goods produced on planes, in burgs and in gate-towns all around the Great Wheel.

Fire fruit is definitely going to get some use in my next game, as will the Bytopian Bottle and the karach weapons and armour.

Overall, a good (though shorter) update to the Planewalker's Handbook.

So what did you like the most about this new release?

I didn't know it was up either, although I visited the site regularly. You need some neon letters or something. Off to read it now.

BTW Clueless, could we possibly have a "last updated: xxyyzz" line next to each released chapter? I keep hoping for an update, preferably to the Sigil chapter. (Shemeska said she'd remove the cheesy part with the Lady killing all Aoskar worshpers across the planes)

The news on the front page is inbold... short of making in blinking. *hm* Maybe I'llmoveit up to the very tiptop. BTW check the last page of the pdf - I'm starting to have these chapters include a revision history to them. So we can track it there and on the site itself.

The original version of that was rather direct in what it said, and sadly took on a life of its own, and I had that quoted at me a few times on about four different message board discussions of the Lady. I amended it from that original version some time ago to include language that made it an open question as to how wide the actual death toll was, since a plurality of Sigil's population gave at least some worship to Aoskar, and there was no mass drop in the city pop after that event. I stuck in about four or five different claims and interpretations of what might have happened, and that the details are hazy and ill recorded.

*goes to check that the version currently up is that one*

The new chapter looks great. I was saddened to discover that karach was statted in a completely different way that Mephit James and I had done in our Zerth Prestige Class. I'd like to make the ZPC as PSCS-friendly as possible, though, so does anyone have any suggestions as to how the new version of karach might be included in the PC? Not that I'm trying to accuse the high-ups of anything so heinous as marginalizing my opinions or conspiring against me because of my opposed political views regarding the proper statting of karach.

Keep in mind that the current version of karach is for the standard, mostly untrained bearer. I am of the opinion that the material will act completely different in the hands of people such as the githzerai who have learned to tap into its true potential. Alas, such things will probably be left unofficial until a book dedicated to the gith is released.

I notice that you list the Great Modron March as happening about every 300 years, while PS (at least, Pentar's bio in the Factol's Manifesto, and I think I remember it being so other places) claims it to be every 17 years. Is this an intentional break from canon, and if so why?

PS notes that the Modron March comes about once every 17 Cycles of Regulus... about 300 planar years.

Cycles, years... the difference is only important to a modron.

Point taken, though.

I could have sworn that towards the begining of the setting releases it said 17 years in several places (I seem to remember the background of the Doomguard Factol, whose name escapes me at the moment, having plans for the next one and I thought she was a normal human.) But later got retconed by the TGMM to be a much longer cycle.

The PDF looks great and I definitely like the idea of a version without artwork.

Cheers!

There was a similar material to the Archeronian Clearsteel in the adventure The Sunless Citadel, the first 3rd ed adventure WotC produced. If memory serves, it cost +300 gp.

How about metal illegaly obtained from the gears of Mechanus that might give spell/psi resistance vs mind-affecting powers if made into a helm. Weapons made of the gearmetal would not have the Law trait as its procurement taints it with chaos?

How about piercing/bludgeoning weapons made from the rock walls of Pandemonium that temporarily causes madnes on a critical hit?

Unless the modrons sold the remains of a gear that damaged, say in a Blood War attack that spilled through a portal, or in a conflict with the Formians. In that case the metal is being procured through legitimate channels...

What's a rough price for Mechanus gearmetal?

Great, you just made me think of Archeronian Clearsteel as a theme ingredient on Iron Chef.

Be more careful about this in future. Coffee and keyboard do not mix.

Haven't a clue. It was just an idea I had. Working out the exact stats and prices aren't things I'm good at.
