There are a collection of WAV files out there -- I have them on my computer, don't know where they're accessible nowadays -- that contain pronunciations of almost every strange word in the original PSCS. It's kinda funny to hear them being said in an almost-bored American accent.
Pronunciation Guide?
Has anyone heard of a pronunciation guide for all these hard words? I hate not knowing what I'm saying, and I've already had enough petty arguments about the pronunciation of "tiefling".
If there isn't one...we should make one!

Mmselle Clueless: Would it be possible for planewalker to host the WAV files of the Planescape pronunciations here? I don't have everything -- don't believe they were all recorded, but then again I don't know exactly who did the recordings in the first place -- but it's got all the layers of all the Outer Planes, all the original tanar'ri and baatezu, etc., and might help with standardization...
[And incidentally, does anyone know who did these recordings? I'm fairly sure it's under the auspices of TSR or the PS design team, but confirmation would be greatly appreciated.]
I shall ask our Ken - he who knows the ins and outs of our lisencing...
Huh, I could have sworn they were linked on the D&D website on this page:
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/downloads
but I can only find an animated modron gif there now. *shrug*
Ah well, sure we can post them on the site if someone has a copy. I'm pretty sure I do somewhere here (sorry, Sarah, my archives are in shambles, I'm working on getting you a clean copy of the old stuff).
So, go ahead and put them on a page somewhere, but just make sure to throw in a "Audio files are copyright WotC" statement or something since I'm 99% sure TSR produced them.
As an aside, in searching through the WotC site, I did find that they have a the Player's Guide to the Outlands available for download:
http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=dnd/dx20010914a
For something like that, I'd suggest downloading a local copy in case it vanishes (like the pronounciation files), but for now just link to the URL above.
Shambled archives work well too - I'll just browse through them anyways and save you the stress of organizing.
And cool - I'll update some links.
I've got'em; where do you want'em?
[I've also got the Player's Guide, as do many others, so if they've made it downloadable you needn't fear it disappearing into the good night...]
Yes. We were talking about pronunciation in this thread. I quoted from the pronunciation guide in the old Outer Planes Appendix, which apparently is different from some of the pronunciations that used to be available as .wav files on the Wizards of the Coast website.
Monte Cook says "teafling," as in cup o' tea. I heard him do it at Gen Con, 2004. The word is of German derivation.
