?

Why would Orcus replace Hades?

Isn't Hades' latin name 'Pluto?'

Before we get to the "Great Unhinging" (from earlier thread-time of Ragnorak and the Pantheon War), I would like people to submit ideas for what events happen in PSCS's immediate future. There's no big technological advancement in this time, and in most respects the "Post-Faction War" period is more or less the setting that's the main feature of Planewalker.com.

Here are three big events for this time period:
-Loki murders Balder, setting the wheels of Ragnorak in motion.
-Egyptian Pantheon adds the Nile River to the list of major planar pathways.
-Greek Pantheon begins 'romanizing'

Edit: Added to Thread of Threads

To my knowledge, Orcus was a roman demon of death/undeath. That's pretty much where he was found from to D&D.
Some sources though say that he was the god of the underworld. Pluto was "just" Death, or they're the same thing. It's often like that with old stuff, no?
The more amusing part is that one of the other alias' of Orcus has been...
Dis Pater.

This is mostly because romans just absorbed religions and names into themselves from every country they took and kept stuff and threw other stuff away.
Which by the opens a classic PS can of worms. Is it this way or that way, or are we too damn planar already to even care about it?

I don't think you ever told us the reason for this decision. Is there something special in Roman pantheon as opposed to the Greeks, or do you just prefer them or what?
I'm not against it (as the Romans, as I said above, have more gods, more stuff, more everything) but I want to know.

Well, the core of the Roman pantheon were the Greek gods (Zeus became Jupiter, Posidon became Neptune, Ares became Mars, etc.) Also, the inclusion of other deities will be part of the peace agreement after the Pantheon War. Finally, the change from Greek to Roman (or Greco-Roman, emphasizing the core Greek gods) gives a sense that the powers are shaped by their worshippers.

Dicefreak's Deity Directory

They have a few .txt files in the second post that provides a quick reference for just about any Power, as well as where they reside in the Planes.

Though I still suggest that they share beds.

Well, the .txt had a quite nice ammount of info, though only the main hindu gods.
If we honestly want to use all of them, we have lots of writing ahead.
Most probably are just like the spirits from AD&D that can give you a few boons. Can't remember the exact names for them, but I have an FR product somewhere that uses them.

Getting back to the topic at hand-WN, what time period would you like to see the Hindu's get a chance in the limelight? I've divided the History up into 5 periods

-Post Faction War Era: Planewalker timeframe
-The Great Unhinging: Ragnorak and the Pantheon War
-The Cosmic Hangover: recovery from last epoch-name is a work in progress
-Age of Pain: Sigil gets a European-style renaissance
-Revelationary Era: The Planes modernize-subdivided into early and late periods.

And extension of this project: The Pantheon War

semi spoiler: there are going to be some big shake-ups as a result of this conflict; these shake-ups are in many ways responsible for the eventual rise of Monotheistic religions in the Multiverse.

Well, it's been over 20 days since I began posting on the Pantheon War, and I've come to the conclusion that my energy is best spent elsewhere.

While the Pantheon War (as well as Ragnorak) is meant to be an important part of how PCSC turned into UPS, both in the change in mechanics and the introduction of new ideological forces (especially monotheism), the problem is that it is too sodding huge! And between work and friends, I don't have time to write tons of background fluff.

So instead of continuing to post on the subject, I'm going to give a summary (tomorrow, since it's late right now) of the aftermath-who came out ahead, who got put in the Dead Book, and who had to pull up stakes and move.

I hope you enjoyed my postings-I'll put it onto my development page and continue to work on it whenever I get an opportunity Smiling
