Hey people, I want to make a Planescape themed Roguelike, a sort of quick, simple dungeon crawling game.
The game will begin in Sigil, your reasons for waking up their randomly generated (as are most things in Roguelikes).
You could start as clueless, with no memory or clothes. You could start as a Prime adventurer that was banished by a dark wizard or even as a thief of the Hive. Each beginning would give the player "Kits" like a lot of jink, a pick-lock set or a magical item that has been passed down the family line.
From there you can do whatever you like. There won't be a plot.
Sigil itself will be randomly generated, each time you create a character, Sigil will be different. The Wards will be stable, but who and what are in them will change.
The Diplomacy and Bluff skills won't be as brilliant as Planescape:Torment, but I hope to make it possible to convince characters of a similier alignment or motive to join you on your quest and to trade information and barter.
After you've gained a few levels and joined a Faction (the game is Pre-Faction War) you'll gain some knowledge on the city portals and visit other planes. I won't be presenting every Outer Plane. Each will, again, be different every time you create a character so you'll fight new foes and find new items with every character.
Ysgard is the Upper Plane I'll be putting in because of the freedom, battles and high fantasy flavour.
Pandemonium is the Lower Plane of the game, its the easiest to code and make interesting to battle through.
Both Mechanus and Limbo will appear in the game. Limbo will hopefully be easy to recreate.
I want the Astral Plane to be in the game, I love the place and it will connect to the to the Primes of the game.
The Prime Material Planes, or as they appear in the game "Mini Primes" are simple overworld areas much like the game Zelda with a series of dungeons and towns. They will all have themes like "Norse", "Oriental", "Desert", "Medieval", "Pirate" and "Dead".
Next post, questions and stuff!
What races do you want?
What classes do you want?
What do you want in general!?
So far I've condensed the races to:
Prime Races: - Choose one of these and your beginning will have more chance involving you coming from a Prime world.
Human
Dwarf
Elf
Goblin - A more interesting small race and fits the flavour of Sigil as a Victorian underclass type.
Ogre - A large race, great for fighters.
Sigil Only Races: - Choosing on of these and your always from the Planes, maybe even Sigil born.
Tiefling
Aasimar
Githyanki
Githzerai
Classes:
Fighter - Currently I thinking...what if Fighter's dead levels were replaced with Monk feats?
Bard - Bard+Marchal=Better Bard?
Wizard - No sorcerer class as it isn't as fun as doing favours in return for scrolls ect. Magic should be a taught art.
Cleric
Rogue - Perfect.
Ranger and Druid? Does it fit the game?
Prestige Classes:
The factions as Prestige Classes that level up as you please your betters, not killing monsters for exp.
Psion - *Know* yourself suppicant.
Swashbuckler - Taught on some Pirate Prime Worlds
Assassin - Taught on some Prime Worlds and in Sigil
Ah, maybe Ranger and Druid are taught on Prime Worlds
Powers: - A tough thing, Gods, but I think you have to have them. So far I know I want these guys. In Planescape I want gods that have use all over the Planes, I don't want sun gods or godesses of trees. There concepts have to work everywhere.
Bahamut, the Platinum Dragon - Nobility, Air, Storms, Good, Protection - LG - Actively seeks out Evil and slays it
Tiamat, the Nemesis of the Gods - Evil, Destruction, Tyranny, Wrath, Greed - LE - Actively seeks out Good and slays it
Odin, the All-Father - Knowledge, Travel, Trickery, War - NG - Prepares for Ragnarok
Hecate, the Dark of the Moon - Creation, Earth, Magic, Madness - NE - Powerful and mad, she gives power to those that amuse her
Aoskar, the Dead God of Portals - None...but random effects and portal-themed abilities are gained. - Any - What Aoskar wanted is unknown now, but plenty of "clerics" will tell you whatever screed they like.
