Planescape - Newb Help!

Hi,

I'm extremely new to Planescape, I'm thinking about running a planescape campaign for my gaming group and was wondering what info is available?

I have downloaded the Setting books on the site here and was wondering if there was any other info available?

Cheers!

I always recommend getting the computer game Planescape: Torment if you can find a copy of it. Great way to get an idea for the look and feel of Planescape and especially Sigil.

Another good resource is mimir.net which has Voila!'s Dictionary of Planar Cant. "Cant" is the common language of the Planescape setting.

Also, if you have Neverwinter Nights you can check out one of the many Planescape servers. There will also be a Planescape adventure for Neverwinter Nights 2 by Rogue Dao Studios which, once released, should give you a pretty good introduction to the setting.

Welcome aboard Bertrum! Nice to meet you. If you've ever any questions, just throw them at us and people far more learned than I will be happy to answer.

Are you knew to Dungeons & Dragons too, or just Planescape?

I think 420 has pretty much covered everything short of buying the out-of-print 2nd ed books. Several 3e/D20 suppliments have some planescape interest and use, but sadly its not really the real thing anymore. The only other thing I'd suggest is browsing round the articles for ideas, especially the Planar Portals: Sites to Skeg section for more flavour and ideas - and of course, Kyton's Hooks for adventure ideas....

... speaking of which ( Laughing out loud ) in a shameless bit of self promotion, can I recommend the Planescape Introductory Adventure thread over here: [url]/forum]

The adventures not actually finished yet, but its probably runnable and certainly ready for playtesting (just think, your first campaign immortalised and celebrated in e-print as playtesters!) And if you don't run it, then we'd still all love your feedback on how it reads - particularly as a newbie to PS.

Welcome to Planewalker, bertrum!

I would second giving Desire and the Dead (Armoury99's intro-level adventure) a shot. It's really fantastic, and perfect for beginners.

I would also recommend buying the original Planescape campaign setting (if you don't already have it) from RPGNow as a PDF or ebay.com as a book. There's really no substitute.

Since the 3e material currently doesn't have detailed descriptions of the various planes yet, what websites do you guys recommend as having the most accurate descriptions of the Outer Planes, especially?

Well, any website you go to is going to have some fan made material squeezing in, but I'm not convinced that's a bad thing. I'd say the best two places are here and the old Mimir site. And of course, the Encyclopedia and PSCS we have here are, like, the best rescource ever. Of course, if there are specific questions you have that none of these answer you can always ask us, chances are Rip has the answer, and the rest of us all have our own areas of expertise as well.
