Planes of Chaos - The Varrangoin

I want to delve a little deeper into the Varrangoin, which are in the Fiend Folio. However, I don't think there are any other 3E source materials for them. I was told that Planes of Choas had something on them, but as I can't find it... Would you be able to tell me if they have changed any since the earlier edition? Is there any other information that the FF does not put out? I'm mostly looking for canon info on their psychology, physiology, reproduction, religion, culture, etc... Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated.

They're in the Planes of Chaos monster booklet, and in the description of the Plains of Gallenshu in the Book of Chaos, page 31 (in Planes of Chaos). They once had cities in the layer filled with treasure, but now they're ruined and buried in dust since the tanar'ri came to power. The varrangoin aren't willing to submit to tanar'ri authority forever, though. Their warleader is named Vis Nirrin Vis.

I don't think you're going to find much of that. But you're welcome to make it up and post it here. There is some information in the Planes of Chaos monster booklet, pages 28-29.

The varrangoin also appeared in the Greyhawk From the Ashes boxed set - in fact, IIRC, that was their first appearance. Their game info there was limited to one two-page monster entry, but did hint at some backstory with Iuz. So in a Planescape setting, they could very well have more access to the Prime than most, as well as continuing entanglements with Graz'zt and his ilk.

Planes of Chaos & From the Ashes

Thanks for the heads up on the products. I just got Planes of Chaos & From the Ashes in PDF, so I'll look through them and see what gives. If you remember any other references, please let me know.

I may just do that.
