Planar puzzles

Have you used any in your games or know any good ones?

Re: Planar puzzles

Could you please provide one example as I'm not sure what you are looking for?
Do you want unexplained phenomenon throughout the planes, like "Who carved the one layer of Pandemonium?"
Or are you looking for challenges for your PCs, like "Campaign starts with the PCs pulling themselves out of the River Styx and them trying to figure out who they are, what they are doing there and (most importantly) how do they get to someplace safe?"
Or are you looking for something else entirely?

Re: Planar puzzles

Something simple for my PC's to solve, like a rebus, it needs to look more otherworldly, weirder. I thought about a few ancient pictograms.

Re: Planar puzzles

Brainstorm, brainstorm...

Well if you want something graphic one thing that comes into mind are:

Outer planes symbols: http://www.pathguy.com/outering.gif
Or even Faction symbols: http://planescape.outshine.com/official.planescape-torment.org/images/fa...

You could probably have cryptic symbol pointing to a specific place on the planes. Example. Take the following set of images:

Stickfigure Animal - Moon - Lightning Bolt

That would point to the Stormhold on Karasuthra on Beastland. Fill the rest with sentences in cryptic rebus. You could replace the inner plane symbols with alchemical symbols and formulas:

Just an idea: http://alchemyofthegoddess.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/Basic_Alchemy_...

Maybe giving us a few hint on your campaign and where you want to lead your players would help us find ideas.

Re: Planar puzzles

thanks, but that part of the campaign is now on pause

It was an old gate golem, from Imaskar, that could teleport through Sigil. They'd need to craft the third broken mechanism with the right sigil-pictogram to reactivate it.
