Original Planescape stuff for sale

Hey, bloods!

My name is Ray Vallese, and I was an editor/designer at TSR who worked on the Planescape line in the mid 1990s. Here's the chant: I'm selling a handful of original Planescape items on eBay, including the three "Planes of . . ." boxed sets. These items are from my personal collection, and I want to make sure they go to a good home. That's why I'm flapping my bone-box about the sale here. I realize that you've converted a lot of Planescape stuff to 3rd edition here on the site, but I thought fans of the line might want to know about these products, anyway.

Here's the link to the page with my Planescape auctions:

I didn't see an obvious spot on the site to post this message, so I picked the general RPG Discussion forum. I hope I didn't break any rules -- I don't want to get put in the dead-book.

Anyway, check out my stuff if you want, and congrats on keeping Planescape alive!

Cool, a designer. So what was it like to work on Planescape?

Is there any piece of Planescape you'd consider your "baby," a contribution you're particularly pleased with? If so, would you have any suggestions for current players either using it updated to 3e, or with 4e, or as an element in a Pathfinder-like game?

Har: Working on PS was a ton of fun. Not only were the game products entertaining in themselves, but the core PS folks were a tight group of friends, and we all enjoyed working together. (In fact, I'm still good friends with Monte Cook and Colin McComb, two of the main PS designers.) It might be a cliche to say it, but we had as much fun making PS as you had using it.

Jem: For me, it would be Uncaged: Faces of Sigil. That was one of the few products that I designed on my own. (In most cases, I edited the products and/or developed material that the original designers created.) All I was asked to write was a simple NPC book, but I wanted to try something different and ended up linking all the characters together to help make Sigil feel more alive. I think Uncaged is also an easy book to update to a different rules system since the bulk of the book concerns what is usually considered flavor text (which translates easily between systems), and we kept the stats in a sidebar. I'm afraid I can't give you any specific advice about updating the stat blocks, though, since I'm not a crunchy rules kind of guy. Smiling

Uncaged is one of the books in my current crop of auctions (along with some boxed sets and adventures).

You did "Uncaged"!?! You should be very proud. That was a great work that stood out even in a product line as good as Planescape

Wow. You are my new hero.

Uncaged is my favourite RPG book ever.

Re: Original Planescape stuff for sale

Thanks for the kind words. I'm very happy with how Uncaged turned out. I don't have a copy of the book with me right now, but I think that we had a typo in the stats for Shemeshka the Marauder, giving her a male gender symbol instead of a female symbol. That led to a bunch of jokes about Shemeshka being the first cross-dressing arcanaloth. Smiling

Am I mistaken, or do you only ship these items inside the US? Because I'd love to buy them, even for a lot more than the listed price. Always wanted some physical copies of the books.

Eldan (and all),

I am happy to ship the items anywhere in the world. That information was not part of the original auction listings because (for some reason) eBay didn't let me add international shipping options at the time. But I have since updated the listings to show that I will ship internationally.

Buyer pays shipping, so if you need a shipping estimate for your country for one or more items, let me know. I realize that international shipping is expensive, but I'll do my best to package the items into the smallest possible box that still allows for adequate protection (bubble wrap, packing peanuts, etc.).

I have pfd versions of all of this, but yeah - sure would have been awesome to get some copies in my hands ... especially signed. But Christmas is upon us and so we my ability to spend money on myself is pretty much nonexistent ... and none of my other players run Planescape. A shame.

Yeah, PDFs are great, but like you said, sometimes you just want to sit back with a real book in your hands. Well, maybe you can drop hints for your friends to bid on stuff as Christmas presents for YOU. Smiling

Awww.

I really, really wanted Uncaged. And two seconds before the auction ends, someone buys it away from me. By about doubling the last bid, too.

Another comment: I bought two of your books now, Planes of Chaos and into the Abyss, but there's some problems with Paypal.

Specifically, they are giving me the address and number of a swiss bank to which I have to pay the money. According to my own bank, that bank does not exist anymore since over a year. Paypal is not helping.

So, is there some other way I could send you the money? Directly, perhaps?

Otherwise, there will probably be some delay as I find some way to put the money on Paypal despite those problem.s

Eldan, sorry you were outbid on Uncaged. That has happened to me before on eBay, too -- watching someone else grab something at the last second.

Congrats on winning Planes of Chaos and In the Abyss. I've responded to your question through the eBay message center.

Thanks to everyone who looked at my auctions. Happy holidays to all!

Damn, out bid on planes of law in the last thirty seconds. Oh well, would've been nice to have.
