Are there any plans to update the defunct factions for those still playing pre-FW? If so, as official content or as an article?

Heh. I'd definately second that request. I play a lot of pre-FW, and while it's not too hard to extrapolate the old ones from the groups they became, it'd still be nice to have it all laid out in official print
