I could picture a layer of

I could picture a layer of the abyss with a vast "forest" of these things, slightly swaying in the smokey breeze and some little demon, maybe a mix of a small monkey like creature with insect wings and bird claw like feet that can harvest "fruit" from them.

Or maybe a stagnant water filled cave, lit by phospherent fungi on the roof and these thick on the cave floor. Giantesque millipedes scuttling beneath them over the slightly light emitting dead fungus shells from the roof.

Excellent idea ! But,

Excellent idea !

But, originally, this creatures lives in the astral plane, near the city of N'Gati, built on a dead god.

They are the manifestation of the dead god, when he is disturbing by the trouble due to the inhabitant of the city (wizards and adventurers principally).
