Or a sling that fires longbows?

On wheels, with several different bolts that drop in before you have to reload? That would be more a siege ballista than a crossbow, one that fires six or so bolts at once before you reload.

The first idea is just plain stupid. An ordinary longbow would be better, because the arrows would be more stable in flight (and therefore more accurate), as well as able to penetrate armor and flesh (inflicting peircing wounds rather than blunt trauma).
The second idea... well, it also seems rather silly, but not as much so as the first.

Beyond the stability arguement, the reason a sling gets its power and range is from a spinning motion imparted to the rock. Like a well spun baseball. That's part of what makes a sling bullet stable and hit with power. Otherwise you're just firing a non aerodynamic rock with a mechanical push behind it.
The second one already exists in stats. To me it seems to be redundant. Just spruce up a prettier description of the already existant repeating crossbow.

These two weapons already exist.
There's a more powerful sling weapon in Sandstorm, WotC's guidebook to desert campaign material.
There is no explanation of how a gattling crossbow functions differently from a repeating crossbow or heavy repeating crossbow.

Do you have stats for the weapons? Or any idea how they work/what they look like? Magical or mundane?
It's hard to give feedback on what seems to still be a nugget of an idea.
