Oooo goody Laughing out loud I also think we should have it in the Encyclopedia if possible...unless anyone else thinks no?

We can easily link to the appropriate sound file in each entry, assuming it won't eat up too much bandwidth.

I would have no idea how to do something like that Laughing out loud

I think there may be a problem with the EotP's search function as I have received assignments for both A'kin and Arwyl Swan's Son, both of which already have entries with keywords that match the new assignment titles... Kwint

I fixed the A'kin entry a while ago by copying the one with the variant apostrophe and adding to the regular A'kin's keywords.

I'm sure the problem was someone copying the word A'kin from Microsoft Word, which uses non-standard apostrophes and commas.

Right-click on the sound file, "Copy link location," then use the link button in the entry-editing screen to turn the word "aasimar" (for example) into a link - paste the URL you copied earlier. At least, it works that way in Firefox.

I've done it for the aasimar entry.

I did it a little differently in the aasimon entry, so that the link is in the pronunciation part.

So I'm editing an entry and I finish up, I re-read it and then go to push the edit button but almost hit the delete button...Almost a calamity, but it got me to thinking; maybe a "Are you sure you want to delete this entry" pop-up after hitting the delete button might not be a bad idea...Thoughts?...

Good call (though in a desperate situation I have the ability to recall something that's been deleted too).

How do you imbed links to off-PW sites within an entry so it shows as text...I know how to do it in the for forum thread replies, but can't figure it out for the EotP...

Do you see all the buttons at the top of the editors? There should be one that looks like a piece of chain - that's used to make a link with. Highlight the piece of text that needs to carry the link, then put the link information in the window that pops up for it.

The editor works much like Wordpad or any other RTF style editor does.

"On a plane" or "in a plane", which is correct?...I use to say/write "on" (as in "guardinals can generally be found on Arcadia") but seeing Rip's scribblings I started writing "in" (as in "guardinals can generally be found in Arcadia") for consistency's sake, but now I'm re-thinking it...Should I or are both forms correct?...

Either one is correct. I've seen many examples of both in various Planescape books.

I'm starting to get assignments for subjects that already have entries for them...The keywords for the new subjects match the keywords for the existing entries...Examples are for 'sparkle' and 'Nijul P'iuy'...

So I'm noticin' that there are a variety of apostrophes that may be the reason that we're gettin' multiple entries and assignments (for those with apostrophes in them, the others, like 'sparkle' or 'knight of the post' elude me)...When I've encountered multiple entries, I just copy and paste the entry with the new type of apostrophe into the older entry's key words...Here is an example of the different kinds of apostrophes:

Nijul P'iuy P’iuy P’iuy

Hope this is helpful,
Kwint

Sorry for bringing up the subject again, I hadn't notice the third type of apostrophe and just wanted to bring it to your attention in case you hadn't either...It didn't seem to be part of that interaction...Sorry if Ive wasted bandwidth... Kwint

I am a pathetic old dork...I check and read (and oft times re-read) the RPG Discussion section of the PW forums 30 times a day at the minimum in hopes of finding something new on Ortho, or what's up with the EotP...I even read the other threads if for no other reason than clear them from the unread notation... Ok, I put some checks into the search and relate systems that should catch the random html tages that sometimes sneak into a search attempt. Hopefully that should cut down on some of the duplicates we see.

Woo Hoo, 1000 entries on the EotP...Okay, they're not all filled in, but a 1000, that's a lot of info...Okay, one or two (or more) may be deleted, but a 1000...Pats on the back all around, especially to Rip (although some of his deity write-ups are a bit skimpy Eye-wink ), Clueless (who needs to remember to include the all important linking brackets Eye-wink ), Princessbunny, Taotad, Shemeska and, of course, Anonymous...

1000 entries is a lot, hats of to the contributors and those that came up with the idea.

I've created a Grand Tour of the Encyclopedia post. Now this is a pretty raw idea, but my intention was to create something that newcomers could start with and get eased into using the encyclopedia to learn about Planescape.

If (after several edits) it would get good enough it could become a good introduction. Its a little on the side of the whole project, so if someone deems it stupid, please delete it.

It's not a bad idea really Smiling I'll keep an eye on it as it gets fluffed up into a real introduction and if it turns out to be as useful an entry as I think it'll be I'll make sure it's one of the first things seen on the encyclopedia.

I really like this encyclopedia project. I think it's shaping up well from what I've seen, and I might even write up a couple of entries if you guys are interested in unsolicited submissions.

One suggestion I had for the entries was to include the references to each subject in the official products. The Ravenloft Catalog on Kargatane.com was a great resource because it was amazingly documented with references to page numbers where the topic appeared in the literature. The one weakness of the Ravenloft Catalog was that it *only* contained page references and didn't actually describe the topic in question.

Words can't really do justice to the pedantic, cross-referency goodness of the Ravenloft Catalog. I encourage any of you guys to go to Kargatane.com and look up, say, 'Castle Ravenloft' to get an idea of just how thorough they were.

However, I realize that you guys are probably busy enough just getting the bugs worked out and writing the basic descriptions of the entries. So I'm volunteering to comb through the products to help dig up references as well as helping to write entries.

Go for it - that's the sort of drive that's really gets a project like this up and going. No matter how much I as an admin ask for something, chances are it won't happen unless the people I'm asking agree with it. We'd love the help. Especially since not all of us have the resources at hand and are having to fill in details from memory, making it hard to cite reference correctly.

I've added some sources to the A'kin entry. Have a look at them, and their formatting, and let me know what you think. Figured I'd work on notable NPCs first.

I found some Jeff Dee illos of some of the powers of the egyptian and norse pantheons (and Agni of the Indian Pantheon) from the 1st ed. Deities & Demigods on the net today...Have inserted them into the appropriate entries...Very excited, such memories from oh so long ago...
