New to Planescape

Ive tried to start a good planescape several times and brought up some questions right now me and my tabletop group are playing pathfinder and got me wondering about doing planescape for our next campaign. So was curious on where is a good adventure to start or something good to do with it. Also is it really that much better on 2e? Or do the conversions for 3.5 work fine for pathfinder as well. D&D next looks like a good candidate after its full release. But yeah any thoughts?

As I recall Tales of an Infinite Staircase was a long campaign, starting at low levels at going close 20.

Well of Worlds also had a good range of shorter adventures.

I'd consider starting people off in Sigil, maybe heading to the Neutral and Upper Planes for some adventures. Lower Planes are a possibility for low levels, but you may want to keep them as hazardous places for mid-level.

Imho both editions work quite well for Planescape. While 2nd definitely has the classic Planescape feel, 3rd edition/pathfinder is flexible enough to create and reproduce lots of concepts/ideas. If your comfortable with Pathfinder I don't see any need to switch edition.

Mixing 3.5 and pathfinder propably works for monsters/NPCs but PCs should rather stick to one system (or maybe you can check beforehand which material you allow to be used/mixed).

Well of Worlds is indeed a good choice to introduce new players to the setting. The Planes of/Law/Conflict/Chaos boxes also contain nice low-level adventures for each of the described Planes.
If you plan to run a longer and connected campaign, The Great Modron March and Dead Gods might be a good choice.

Hmm, dead gods sounds interesting. I wouldnt mind touching the modrons but i dont think id want a campaign centered around them. Poking around on the forums a bit more it does look like if we are familiar with pathfinder using 2e would be a nightmare especially since none of us have ever used it before.

Yeah i was looking at the massive conversion for 3.5 on the site, both wotc and paizo have their own planar rules far more forgiving than the original conversion. And paizo more lenient than wotc. Mostly regarding things like effective divine level and limited and restricted magic. I did notice a shortage on campaign length adventures does PS do better with short episodic style adventures? But yeah i picked up a lot of the 2e content fluff books and the 3.5 planes book.

In my opinion Planescape works for short episodic adventures as well as for longer campaigns. One of the strenghts of the setting is the versatility of the planes, so episodic adventures can be quite useful to bring that fact to bear.
Dead Gods for example is a very extensive campaign but consists of twelve rather episodic (but connected) adventures which take the PCs to Sigil, the Outlands, a demiplane, Yggdrasil, Baator (Ankwugaht), the Prime Material Plane, The Negative Energy Plane, Arborea, the Pandemonium and the Astral.

It may be worth noting as well that the events in the Modron March lead into the events in Dead Gods. So even if you don't want to run that, it may be worth reading.

I've also found that in converting NPC's/Creatures it may be a good idea to bump their power level a bit as higher level PC's will otherwise make quick work of them.
