New Game: "Flotsam"

I've got a bit of time in the coming week and beyond, so I'd like to start a game based on a premise of mine from awhile ago.

Four mortals are trapped on Carceri, waking up on the banks of the Styx with no memory of who they are or what they are doing there... escape is the primary goal.

If this sounds up your alley, "Flotsam" needs four 5th level equivalency (3.5 rules) player characters. Any race with a 4 or less LA is good. (So you can be a 4th level Aasimon Fighter, or a 3rd level Centaur Druid, or a 2nd level True WereBoar Barbarian... Or another thing - your call.

No established characters, please. And don't worry about possessions - I'll take care of that - it's part of the story.

Just respond or PM me if you're interested, and we'll start as soon as I have my four.

What books can we use for the game? I may or may not join, I need to take stock of a few things first.

Eh, I'd like to keep it to WotC-sanctioned stuff. This is more about story than ability. I'd prefer ROLEplayers, rather than ROLLplayers, if'n you know what I mean.

Well I assumed you wanted roleplayers as opposed to munchkins rollplayers, but there are lot of different WotC books, so I was curious which ones you would use because my process for creating a character generally starts with race and class then background then stats. So I was just curious what you had because that can dramatically change what I can work with.

Oh that Styx! Always... having people fall into it. My character in the game I'm playing on this forum had the same thing happen to him. Apparently.

Except he woke up in a necromancer's lab.

Whoa, it's amazing how fast people reacted and how fast is your game full. Just consider that my PM was send earlier (about 10:00 a.m. on February 8th Sticking out tongue )

So I have still hope I am in

Any WotC sanctioned book or race/class from the PSCS on this site is golden, IMO.

I'd prefer morally-ambiguous characters on this. Neutrally-aligned for a reason (not remembering who they are makes a difference).

I have a couple of PMs already on this, and those folks will take precedence. However, if you're interested in playing, please send me a PM with character's stats, as well as descriptive text of what they'll look like, and I'll take my pick for players.

I'd rather have quality, not first-come, first serve, so please take this into consideration and don't rush into it.

Gracias.

A werebear is 6hd +3 lvl adj= ECL +9, just to make a point, i made a calculation mistake some time ago in that regard myself Smiling.
And if i read the Centaur correct, he is 4 lvls of monstrous humanoid and +2 lvl adj, ECL = 6 also..

Actually, just to drop a rules thing randomly, the LA applies to the humanoid form. The HD of animal don't add to the LA. It's just a special ability to turn into a bear. A werebear fighter 1 would still be a 4th level equivilant, who could transform themselves into a bear with 6 HD.

A centaur would be a sixth level character. As Burning Spear said, 4 HD, 2 LA. Some DMs allow players to ditch an HD or two to make playing things with racial HD a little less painful.

Go with the LA, not my examples. I typed them without a book in front of me.

two are in, two spaces still open.

Sorry for the hijack, but this does make me think,
Then to ask:
how u compute the fact that the bonus hitdice of the creaturetype for a lycanthrope are added bonus to the racial base??
i mean, a werebear, regardles of level adj gets the +6D8 +30 regardless of form, should that not inclrease his level adj or anything?
Werecreatures are confusing to me, regarding hd, skills and lvl adj Eye-wink

I checked back, and I think I may have misread the monster section for lycanthropes, which is very badly written in my opinion. The lycanthropes as characters section (MM, 178), which I din't even know existed, until today is much clearer, and does note that racial HD are provided and function as normal, making my previous post incorrect. It also makes the lycanthrope template the only one that provides new hit dice, which was previously the basis for my assumption.

Also note that the characters section does a far better job explaining feats, skills, etc. Knowing it existed simplifies things somewhat.

One question on DM - the setting on the game assumes we have no memories. How extremely did you meant this? Do we know our names, do we know about Great Wheel, about Sigil, about Blood War? Do we know about the place we were born? Or are we just supposed to forget anything about the way we get to the prison plane?

Speaking of which, we could say that drinking water from Styx will erase recent memories first, and the things we learned in an early age (NAME!, general information about planes etc.) will be forgotten as last.

I would find strange if you would erase everything, but we stayed on 5th level Smiling

Genarally, reasons like this, it is assumed that the Styx takes mainly specific memories and knowledge away. I don't know how jordarad will choose to handle it though .

Hence why I only wanted you to send me stats. Your characters remember NOTHING, so why do anything for a write-up? Just put this in my hands, for now, and let the story write the characters.

You remember nothing. Name, faction affiliation, alignment, deities worshipped, history... NOTHING. The styx erases all.

Insinct, however, remains. Your physical prowess remains. You may still be intelligent, wise, or charismatic - these things do not change. And who knows? You may even regain these memories and knowledge beyond.

Hence the questions of this campaign.

This is not a traditional campaign. There will be much character and player freedom to rediscover their character, and Carceri will shape you as much as you shape Carceri with your beliefs.

Still waiting for two more players.

I'd rather not have speculation on this. Please let me answer questions regarding the campaign. My policies may be different than cannon.

Danke.

I was silent 'cause no one had put through any more requests to play.

By the way, is anyone playing in the game politically right wing? Because if so our personalities and play styles are bound to clash badly, which will probably result in me getting kicked out of the game.

I wouldn't like to get politics involved in this either but it's bound to indirectly. I mean, if I was going to try to play a pacifist how many right wingers wouldn't think I was an idiot? Not many. And what about asking questions?
