Well he is an information gatherer and a telepath, the idea wouldn't be -that- far fetched heh.
With an insular and as paranoid race as Githyanki? I doubt it, but the DM ok-ed it, so there you go ...

Okay, updated the character sheet, and I really don't want anything besides what I have. (Didn't even want the invisibility ring that much either, just initially threw it in there to make things more interesting ;P)

It's rare for githyanki to willingly teach their language to "barbarians," but some renegades (or at least those far outside the usual githyanki cultural mindset) might be willing to do so. Also, someone who really, really hates githyanki, but knows their language (perhaps a githzerai) might do so. Anything in Sphinx's background like that?

Ah, I see your point about yanki's being highly insular.
I was actually thinking independent research, but if that is unrealistic for someone like Sphinx, I suppose I could come up with some kind of backstory element to add to his history. Alternatively, I could pick a new language.

Blade, I have a lvl 5 character, not incl the +2 lvl adj Githyanki have, total is 7, so I think Zimmy does do that

No, Burning, no further beefing up of the ring.
Cadence: If he was able to access 'books of psionic lore,' he might have been able to find something like a Rosetta Stone document. However, if his understanding of Githyanki comes only through books, native speakers will generally be able to tell the difference.

I would say that the understanding comes mostly through books, and through an occasional associate with whom he was trading darks with. At any rate, I would definitely agree that his grasp of the language is functional, but not quite fluent.

It's more of a racial variant than a feat, but the effect is the same.

Hm. I was originally going to take care of the 'how the PCs ended up in Curst' part, but we can say that Sphinx ended up in there first.
