I originally posted these on the RoE forums, and they got good reviews. So now, I want to know what you think of my original Abyssal layers.
Layer 92, The Waxen Sea, discovered by Takouba, echideneco tiefling
An ocean of molten white wax flows and boils beneath the layer's pale gray sky. Although the air is warm and humid, it doesn't stop some of the wax from cooling and solidifying on occasion, forming 'islands' on which the some of the layer's resident fiends dwell. Other have found their own unique ways of living on this layer, whether it be ships that sail upon the wax as if it were water, or massive chunks of earth brought in from other locations. The ruler of this layer, Schuma, lives in a hollow globe of hardened wax that drifts about beneath the surface. Schuma died recently, however, and now his two most trusted aides are at war over who will be the layer's next ruler. Eusebius, a glabrezu, faithfully lives in his master's spherical palace, while Florestan, a marilith, has set up base on one of the wax 'islands', where she lives in wax tower that vaguely resembles a giant melting candle, the burning 'wick' actually being several petitioners tied into a column and tormented constantly by a palrethee (MMII).
Only a few major towns can be found on this layer. One of them is Palido, a shanty town that has sprung up around Florestan's tower. Most visitors are immediately conscripted into into Florestan's army, and the town provides nothing of real value, so it's best avoided. A better stopover for travellers is Varan's Rock, built on a slab of grayish-pink stone surrounded by cooling wax. The town is currently ruled by a tiefling bloodmage named Qichan. Qichan's skin and hair are stark white, while his eyes are solid red, and his fingernails are replaced by claws. Qichan is normally a calm and amiable fellow, but won't hesitate to viciously attack those he feels have wronged him.

Here's my second Abyssal Layer, which was inspired by the Inu-Yasha character 'Yura of the Hair' The ruler is also based on her, but with an interesting twist...
Layer 396, Folliculi, discovered by Takouba, echideneco tiefling and Sensate explorer
For many, Folliculi's true nature isn't apparent at first glance. Beneath the layer's eternal night, lit only by a blood-red crescent moon, the landscape appears to be a series of strange-looking hills and cliffs. It's only when one steps onto the layer's surface, or shines some light in front of them, that they see just how this layer got it's name, as the entire landscape is made up of strands of dark hair. Without experience or a guide, this layer can be quite deadly. Single strands of hair, randomly strung across the layer and nearly invisible, can easily remove limbs or sever heads, while demons, undead, and fiendish vermin lair in the hills and cliffs, which are made up of detritus and millions of intertwined strands of hair.
The ruler of Folliculi is female demon named Yura who controls the hair that makes up the layer with a magic comb. According to most of the residents, she has always ruled the layer. While this is true, it's not in the way that most of the residents think. Long ago, Yura's original body was destroyed in an attemped coup while she was in astral form. Fortunately, the demoness was able to take up residence in her magic comb, an artifact carved from the shoulder blade of a tortured erinyes and stained red with the blood of a female paladin. From there, she has continued to rule by posessing various hosts through the comb, most of them being her succubus minions, but a few have been powerful mortals or fallen celestials.
The only known burg on this layer is a town called Faded Virtue. The town is located in a bowl-shaped 'valley' that's accessible by two 'bridges' made from interwoven strands. The ruler of this burg is an insane aasimar named Domai who prefers to called 'Turtle', even though there's nothing turtle-like about her. Domai was once an accomplished planewalker, but an ill-fated trip to Pandemonium caused her to lose her mind. She came to rule over Faded Virtue after it's previous ruler and founder, a fallen astral deva, was killed in a fight with a succubus. Domai lives in a burrow at the center of town, accessible only by a single hole. She shares this burrow with Ogopogo, an anarchaic behir that serves as her companion and mount. Domai is mostly harmless, except for the fact that she gives Ogopogo free reign of the town when he's hungry.
Services in Faded Virtue include:
The Gilded Knot: A moderately priced inn run by a half-elf named Manavune. Manavune is a member of the Dispossessed, and rarely ever smiles. Despite the owner's seemingly perpetual frown, The Gilded Knot see many customers.
Catus Inc.: A salvaging/'lost and found' group made up entirely of mephits. Items found amongst the strands of hair by the mephit teams are brought here to be sold. If the item you're looking for isn't here, a team of mephits will go out and find it for a small fee, providing you have the funds and a good description of the said item. A steam mephit named Catusmoilansana is the proprietor of this service, and he runs it quite well even though he doesn't know what 'Inc.' means (he simply added it to make his business sound important)
Red Pearl and Blue Lotus: Alu-fiend twins who offer guide services. Their services aren't cheap, but well worth it for those who wish to travel through Folliculli mostly unscathed. Fortunately, the twins are more than willing to haggle.
