Monetary worth of Planescape material

So I did an ebay grab for a bundle of Planescape stuff yesterday - PS Campaign Setting, Planes of Conflict, Planes of Chaos, Hellbound, Guide to the Astral and the Factol's Manifesto for 130$. As I'm not quite (yeah, right Sticking out tongue) as rich as my namesake and I have no idea, what the usual prices are, it would interest me, what you think of this - good deal, okay, otherwise? I won't be regretting it either way, but it would be nice to know Smiling.

Planescape books value generally hasn't dropped below cover price even on ebay.
So, say 6 books at say 20 bucks a pop = 120$.
And some of the books/sets on that list are in high demand so their value over all is probably higher. Sounds like you - at the very worst got exact value on the dollar, and at best got a hot deal. Either way - you're doing good. Smiling I assume none of the books are in completely torn up condition?

All 'Very Good' condition according the seller. Wee, finally PS books that aren't pirated pdfs Smiling. Now lets hope the shipping to my sister in the USA works out ... good thing she's there, too. Smiling

Given that Planes of Conflict is a rarity and alone can sell for more than $100, I would say you got a helluva deal. Perhaps you're living up to your namesake's good negotiation skills. Eye-wink

Hellbound is usually the high double digits, too. Ask Shemmy about his adventures trying to get a copy.

... God my experience was like something out of a twisted O'Henry story...

Me: "Muha! Some ass was trying to outbit me on Ebay at the last minute but I got him with like 2 seconds left. Triple digits yeah, but I got the bastard."

One of my players: "...."

Me: "..."

Player: "What's your screen name on Ebay?"

Me: "..."

Me: "...oh son of a..."

Player: "I was trying to get it for you for your birthday!"

GOOD DEAL???? I believe my eBay exploration cost me that much just for a copy of Hellbound: the Blood War. :x And to think, I was happy that I had out triumphed over 19 other bidders.

Amazing deal. Those are some really really great books/boxed sets and the price was amazing. How did that ever happen? Are you sure you didn't buy, like, photographs of the books?

Pardon my cluelessness, but is there a major advantage of buying original books over getting well-printed pdfs? Like, do the pages flip themselves, or something?

How very non-arcanalothish of you. How do you pronounce "muha" anyway?

For me, at least, there's a real tactile sensation found in the old material that can't be adequately captured by pdfs, no matter how well-printed. It's just not the same: pdfs feel like, well, term papers to me; the MC2, say, feels like Planescape.

[Plus, the artwork's better, the layout's more polished, it's got a nice cover, etc.]

Myself, I have a hard time reading large swaths of material on a computer screen. My eyes get sore after awhile. So I keeps PDFs for reference and quick lookup but do my real reading offline.

You got a hell of a deal.

If you ignore everything but Hellbound and the Planes of Conflict and you still got a hell of a deal.

I rarely see the Planes of Conflict go for less than $65 (I almost had it for $45 two weeks ago and then someone, with less than 20 seconds to go, jumped in and outbid me . . . I have a 56k and had no chance to raise my max in time Sad ). Usually it's closer to $100 than $65.

Hellbound routinely seems to go for even more than the Planes of Conflict.

The Factol's Manifesto usually goes for around $30-$35. I got mine for $20 (some guy put up a "buy it now" for $20 . . . I had to jump at that).

The Planes of Chaos tend to go for around $25-$35. Mine cost $40 but it was still in the shrink wrap.

Guide to the Astral doesn't seem to go for very much, usually around $20.

The main boxed set usually goes for some really random prices. $15-$35 . . .

So you spent $120 and made out like a bandit in my opinion Smiling

Ok, before I was mostly happy, that I got it in one place. Now ... you're making me fear it isn't true. Puzzled

But no, I'll not think about it again until the package arrives at my sister in the US and trust on my beginner's luck. No thinking, only acting.

Best eBay deal I ever saw was, of course, the first one I ever saw so I had no idea how good it was. Complete collection -- the whole damn thing, all box sets and modules, the works -- for $200 plus around $30 S&H. And it was a Buy It Now, too (although somehow it ended up in a bidding war and ultimately went for $250). Man, I feel like a retard for letting that one slip by...

There is some truth to that, but it really just comes down to personal tastes and perspective. Some people like seeing all those books on the shelves in their bedrooms, while others are comfortable seeing those same books as files in a directory on a computer.

How many books/maps/etc are in each of the boxed sets? I'm writing a list for my sister, who's receiving the books and boxes for me ...

And as for doing fine ... I still got a shock looking at my Paypal account today, all but emptied out Sticking out tongue.
