Miniature Giant Space Hamster... in Planescape!

Miniature Giant Space Hamster... in Planescape!

I don't know if this has been pointed out already (or even if it's just part of the folklore now) but I was leafing through In The Cage earlier today when, lo and behold, on the last page there's an ad for Prime Exotics including... a Miniature Giant Space Hamster (Gentle With Children)!

Does anyone know if this marks the first appearance of Boo or his ilk in TSR products, or is this simply the continuation of a running gag? I'd so love for it to be the former...

The latter. The Miniature Giant Space Hamster first appeared in the Spelljammer Monstrous Compendium, Volume One (under the larger entry for Giant Space Hamsters). It was invented by former Dragon editor Roger E. Moore during the party TSR threw with the book's writer budget.

What Rip said. Though I didn't know that it was invented during a party.

Creature Catalogue has space hamster stats for 3E. I don't think anyone bothered with statting the mini version.

Minsc in Baldurs Gate 2 has Boo. A miniture giant space hasmter as a familiar type thingy
