Ah, Bob Geldoff's charity. I hear Pink Floyd got back together to perform for that. Certainly sounds worthwhile. Eye-wink

Pfft. If Africa actually gets their economies together rather than depending on foreign aid, it would be a much better place. There's more than enough food there to feed everybody. It's just that so much money is absorbed by their civil wars, corruption, and bereaucracy that the normal folks can't afford to buy their food.

Yeah civil wars... Over territory disputes that European colonizers intentionally started by drawing territory lines over tribal boundries in order to weaken the tribal structure and allow the colonists to rule more effectivly.

So the Rwandan genocide, the Darfur genocide, Robert Mugabe's corrupt regime, and Thabo Mbeki's declaration that HIV does not cause AIDS (amid a nearly 20% HIV infection rate in his country) are all the fault of 18th century European monarchs? No. Not hardly.

Tossing money at a continent that lacks governments who wouldn't simply divert it to their own personal coffers will do no good whatsoever. Africa has to solve its own internal affairs before any amount of western aid will help solve anything.

Not all, but you have to admit that Europe did have some share in the cause. Much of it has to do with the weather conditions and climate shifts and multiple other causes. There is still room in the world for charity.

Also I would like to add that it IS in our best interests to have more medical profesionals looking out in those poorer and over populated regions in the world as those regoins are more likely to be the source of new diseases and with worldwide travel as it is today the sooner a new contagios disease is spotted the better.

Oh, yes, definately. Or just nuke them all. Noone (associated with a government) in Africa has nukes to hit us with, and this way we don't have to worry about donating money to them anymore. [/joke]
