Level Adjustement

Hi guys!

Are there any 'guidelines' on how to establish a race Level adjustement.

As you all know, there is a lot of interesting Planescape stuff that has not been yet converted to D&D 3.5, so I'll have to do it myself.

Thanks!

Not very good guidelines, IMO. The best way is to compare it to other Level Adjustments you have found to be fair and estimate matters as best you can. Your goal is to get to the point where a player says "Well it'd be really cool to play that race, but I might be better off keeping my class levels, but it does have some cool bonuses, but...". Basically when it's not obvious what is the better way to make a character.

Don't forget about the racial hit dice when you're doing LA's, either. With the exception of outsider and dragon, none of the other types even comes close to being as good as a level of a class. So the more racial hit dice, the lower the LA for the powers given, generally speaking.
