Hello to all of you.

I haven't been in the Planescape community in a long time (although I am the author of the Hinterlands articles that are still housed in the Outlands section of this site)

A friend and I are working on a Planescape LARP - Live Action Role Playing game. I was wondering if such a thing had ever been done before. We looked online and have not been able to find any evidence, but it's always a good idea to ask.

Thanks in advance for any help

James O' Rance wrote several LARPs for Planescape...They include "City of Blood and Darkness", "The Door to Everywhere" and "Immortal Sins"...They can be found on Mimi.net's download page halfway down...If that doesn't work, google "James O'Rance" and one of the freeform titles...

Thanks a lot for this. James did a great job. His writeups of the NPCs in particular are very good.
We're doing something a little different though. Instead of a one time freeform, we are creating an ongoing game format with custom character creation, rps (white-wolf style) challenge resolution, different abilities and powers for each race and faction, etc. By looking at James's SAGA based games, it seems that there haven't been games like the one we're planning. This is either good or bad news.

Thanks so much for your help.

Let me know what you're aiming to do with this actually, I'd like to host the ruleset if you can get it into good enough shape to run one. Eye-wink

At the current point, we are going to be finished with the magic/feat system by the end of the week. That's the basic end of the rules part. We've also written up 8 factions, 6 planes, and are moving forward with the rest of the project quite rapidly (description of sigil, sects, racial and faction merits and flaws).
We're planning a playtest here in NYC maybe in march, then further tweaking, and a final release in april or so?

I'll keep you guys updated. I certainly think we can run it for a while.

I sincerely hope you're talking about the latest rules (those used for "requiem") cause the old Mind's eye theater rules suck bad... If not, have it a look, it is worth it.

On an other note, we (me and a dozen friends, pretty much all very in love with the planescape setting) created a clan of planewalker in a local medieval-fantasy LARP. We had hell of a fun speaking the cant with the local primes!

We lacked of special races (except for a thiefling and an half-elf) but that was our first year. Next year's gonna be better...

So I'll stay tuned, NYC isn't too far from Montreal for me (well for us for that matter), if you ever hapen to crate someting worth the trip...

Your group looks great! Great gender parity, too.

I don't like the new white wolf rules, because I don't like using cards. I think that breaks the player out of character every time a challenge is run. However, this system is 75% custom made, and only about 25 percent based on old MET. The 25 percent is the rock/paper/scizzors thing and the mental/physical/social traits. The magic system is completely custom (I'm on the phone with the other st, finishing the last magical talent right now!)

I'll certainly keep you guys updated. I'm so glad everyone is excited. If people want, i'll post a preview of a talent or a race or faction writeup when those are done.

Those outfits are rather impressive. How do you manage all that? And armor? Very nicely done.

Which one are you?

Out of curiousity:

Point based LARP?

Other wise?

What do you mean by point based?
Our basic mechanics are as follows:
You have physical, mental and social traits, which are not named.
There are 9 mundane and 9 magical talents, which have 6 levels each.
Each race and faction has its own abilities and powers which can be purchased. Races also have maximums on traits at character creation. Magical talents can be combined to create any DND spell. Challenges are resolved though rock paper scizzors, with minimal retests (there are no abilities) and overbids are possible. Challenges should take very little time.
