Lady's Sharper Eye : Art Department

For the new artist. If you want to pitch in on this project, then the only thing that you need to do is raise your hand and say so! We're accepting artwork for articles and ads for the Lady's Sharper Eye.

For Artists: Watch this thread and the latest issue thread for requests. If you spot a request from myself or a writer that you want to fulfill - just call dibs in that thread or in this one.

For Writers: You may put requests for illustrations for articles either here, or in the thread for the issue you expect the article to appear in. Keep an eye on it and let me know if no one seems interested and the deadline is approaching.

Artwork Standards
This is where we get just a little picky on artwork. The Lady's Sharper Eye is a newspaper style project. So for artwork we are looking for good black and white or high contrast greyscale images. Be aware that your image may need to be shrunk to fit on a page or within a column width. Be sure to account for that when you create it and scan it in or tiny details may be lost in the wash so to speak. Don't go overboard on these - it's a newspaper, not a masterpiece to hang on the wall. Eye-wink I don't want you to put so much work into a piece that won't work well for the medium.

I actually volunteered to edit the Lady's Sharper Eye back in, I think, 2001. As Planewalker stopped updating around then, I didn't bother to do much of the actual editing, waiting for a time when doing so would be actually useful. As a result, I've got a folder full of anonymous, largely unedited articles intended for this newspaper. I'm not sure if anyone else still has them.

Antonio contacted me with a selection he's got as well. Smiling

So it looks like we've got a Lot of material floating around. You still up for editting / writing?

Graphics Request

We need a set of 'bladed' style side bars and dividers for the newspaper.

If you look at a news paper you'll notice that there are often simple graphical elements - a line here, a small curly cue there used to divide one article from another, or a headline from its article. I'd like something that mimics the blades of Sigilian architecture, in plain black and white and not overly complex, as it may be shrunked down to fit a page where needed.

I can edit these in my own software to make them as long or as short as needed so long as the middle line of the elements is *straight*. You may want to check this in photoeditting software if you're drawing by hand - the same for making sure its black and white / greyscale. These might end up getting resized so don't go kill yourself making it fancy. Eye-wink

They don't need to be very thick, try to keep them within a centimeter or so of overall thickness counting the bladed bits so they divide text without leaving massive white spaces all over the place.

The following small graphical elements are needed:

1) A horizontal divider bar with bladed ends, blades orriented upwards

2) A horizontal diverer bar with bladed ends, dual blades orriented up and down or simply straight out

3) A vertical divider bar, bladed in matching style to #1, #2 as above

4) A 'box' in the same style for sidebars and other elements that need to be 'framed'

5) And any other simplistic blade style elements you want to toss in while you're at it

If some of these look snazzy enough I may be able to adopt them for pdfs in addition to the Lady's Eye, so don't be surprised if it shows up elsewhere. Smiling

Ok, got em. And they're sweeet looking. Smiling I think that pretty effectively wraps up *that* assignment.

The next one (definately open to all!) is a lot less time-critical and I'm hoping to have multiple folks chip in on it:

Standard 'ad' clipart

By this I mean small pieces that are almost entirely black and white and are fairly generic so they can be used in more than just one advertisement. If you've ever looked at old (1800's) newpapers you'll see advertisements like this all over.

Please no extensive use of color (save that for the flashy front page pics for articles) greyscale at most and preferably high contrast so its easy to make out. This is both to make it easier to fit within the style of this sort of newspaper and to keep them feeling like real 'ads'. Simpler greyscale pics are easier for me to resize if I need to to get it to fit within a column, and it also saves on printer ink for those folks who do plan on printing it out.

Basically we want something fairly simple, and fairly easy to clip or shape to go with some text. Suggested ideas:

ads for snake oil (in both literal and non literal senses)

ads for Sensa... *ahem* "Entertainer's Guild" plays

ads of multiple sizes for the Blood War

ads for local bars such as the Bottle and Jug

Looking forward to it Smiling

And she did? I musta missed that post - I know she got the graphical elements in pretty fast but they weren't exactly complex.

Hi Folks

Heya all, I came across this site as I was looking for some of my fantasy artwork - I did some of the interior art and covers for SIGIS a while back (Vicki Hood), and was pleasantly suprised to find it was still out there.

Anyways, I just thought I'd say I have hundreds of images that you can use for the Lady's Sharper Eye should you want to - I've zipped a few up here (its a rather large file @ 52 meg) - all I'd ask if you do used em is to credit them to aminita.co.uk

http://www.aminita.co.uk/fantasy.zip

Unfortunately I can't play D&D anymore after a falling out with all my old adventuring buddies, but its nice to have a bit of a nostalgic mooch about the site here, and I wish you all happy adventuring thoughts!
