As I understand it, Shemeska calls herself King of the Crosstrade to avoid angering the Lady of Pain by seeming to be trying to usurp her position. It might vex her to have to refer to herself in the masculine merely to avoid angering a non-Yugoloth.
I don't think it's ever been explained officially, though I seem to recall Shemeshka being incorrectly marked as a male in her statblock in Uncaged (I think, might have been a different sourcebook). It's probably just a hook for DMs to build upon.
Of course, since 'loths go both ways, it's hard to see why that would be particularly "vexing" for her...
