Issue 6: Fiendish Friends, Why U Fight in BloodWarz?

So why does this conflict exist? Yes, I know, 'loths are Uber-Puppermasters, but let's think of some other ideas as well!

Evil is an Ouroboros

The Concordance of the Celestials stands as proof that the power of Love can overcome the foundational differences between beings of Order, Chaos, and Balance...and the Blood War is thus the natural result of being as far removed from Love as one can be on the Wheel.

How many sages have thus speculated on the danger the fiends would pose if they were not caught up in their attempts to commit genocide against an infinitely numbered species of opposites?

How many - often now vanished - scholars have placed the blame on the 'loths, believing the schemers foster the war for their own vile purposes?

Yet what if neither of the two positions told the whole story, what if the Blood War actually made both tanar'ri and baatezu stronger?

Think about it this way. Apparently you have these godlike intelligences scattered among the devils and demons, but all of them are just too blinkered to get away from the "hordes versus tactics" speel put out by apparently wise mortals you run into every five feet on the streets of Sigil.

Do you really believe that if a fiend can rise, it can't temporarily adopt the bit of innovation or discipline necessary to clean the other side's clock?

I suppose the argument could be made that "hordes versus tactics" is a simplification of a greater, plane spanning battle that encompasses the conflict between Pattern and Variance. The Bloodwar is Pi, is what some Mathematicians say, and this has a certain appeal both in its elegance and my love for the homonym pastry.

But then, if this is a battle for the very definition of Evil, why do the true powers that be in both Hell and the Abyss show such little concern for the efforts of their lessers? With the exception of Bel and a few upjumped tanar'ri Princes, the interest in the Blood War seems equivalent to the interest Sigilians might take in the Aborean athletic competitions annually sponsored by the gods of Olympus.

If the 'loths were in as much control as they claim, wouldn't the Lords of Hell and Princes of the Abyss put a stop to such a waste of resources? Don't they realize that Good, for all its presumed softness, is never idle in its War with Perdition?

The very fact that the Blood War continues suggests that the conflict possesses not only some value, but a worth equal to the alliances and friendships that are the foundation stone of the Concordance.
