Why is he now a Intermediate Power rather than (at LEAST!) a Greater Power, like in 2nd Edition? If you read Monster Mythology, he is supposed to be possibly the creator of the universe, and now he's only an Intermediate god??? Why the drop? I think poor ol' Io is getting the shaft from WOTC... I mean, the Draconomicon is cool and all that, but come ON!
IO the Concordant Dragon's power drop...
It's because in 3e they want Bahamut and Tiamat to be the undisputed most powerful dragon Gods. Also they want to ensure that Gods like Pelor, Cuthbert and the bunch are more powerful than them...
I would think that dragon gods would be naturally (supernaturally?) more powerful than the gods of the "lesser races". In that sense, maybe dragons rate their deities on a different scale than the other races. If that is the case, Io being and overgod of the dragon deities could be much more powerful than say Ao.

Bahamut and Tiamat are lesser gods, while Io is an intermediate deity. And it's strange that Ilsensine is a greater deity still, if there was a design mandate to ensure the core deities were the most powerful.
I guess they might be thinking that because there are less dragons than humanoids, dragon gods will have less worshipers and therefore be less powerful. I'm not convinced, although I don't think of Io as an overpower.
Hear, hear. Io will always be a greater deity to my heart .
Here is qestion that always have bugged me: is IO (dragon god) and AO (god from Forgotten Relams) the same god with different names (IO is name that dragons use and AO is name that humans use) or two different gods with simmilar name? (prehaps there is also UO, EO and OO). Heh.

There's no connection between Io and Ao at all. Their names share a vowel, that's it.
Io is the creator god worshiped by the dragons, the father/mother of the other draconic gods. He's a greater deity.
Ao is the overpower of Realmspace, barely known by mortals of any species, charged with watching over the gods of that crystal sphere. Ao is far beyond the status of a greater god, but only where Realmspace is concerned.
In Realmspace, Ao is as much the superior of Io (who is called Asgorath there) as he is of any other deity. Outside Realmspace, Ao has no power except over those gods worshiped only within his crystal sphere. Outside Realmspace, Io couldn't be concerned less with what Ao might think.
Thank you Rip.

As far as I'm concerned, he's still a greater power. DvR 19 or 20.
