Hypothetical Ramblings

This has almost nothing to do with anything. But I thought it was something interesting to think about, and since I like hypotheticals, here we are Smiling

Anyway, I was having a dream Sunday night that ended up more like a training simulation. In this dream I was some sort of creature (but didn't know which sort of creature at the time) and I was stalking around a house and various outbuildings situated on a hill. There were various people in the dreamscape going about their business. Some of them, I knew, in the intuitive way that one often simply knows a thing in a dream, were part of patrols that I was to either avoid or dispatch.

I failed to avoid one of the "patrols" and regrouped at one of the outbuildings. Someone from inside the main house called out to me that they knew where I was and were forming attack parties. I attempted to change positions and failed again to conceal myself.

I ended up around the front of the main house and was thinking about fleeing. There were simply too many humans for me to attack safely, being one against so many. Before I fled (bear with me) I dropped an "event flag" on the ground and waited near it for everyone to gather at the front of the main house.

All the humans started walking over and a man I knew as some sort of a "gamemaster" came around the corner. He asked me why I dropped the "event flag" and I said something to him about the humans and their classes, hit die, and challenge ratings; then I asked if the encounter level was appropriate or should it be adjusted.

The "gamemaster" asked me, "What powers does an incubus have that you aren't using?" HA! So I'm an incubus? I thought to myself, an incubus has polymorph, for one. I wasn't using that. And my wings! I wasn't using flight to my advantage either. Plus I have claws on my feet and hands that I could use to grip my opponents, fly to some height, and fling them to their deaths.

So, if I haven't lost you already, this afternoon when I was recalling the dream I had I was wondering about the finer points of flight, movement, and stealth.

Some creatures that aren't capable of sustained, powered flight use their wings to "hop" in rapid succession. Incubi can fly as normal but what if I attempted a "wing hop"? That may not be as fast as running but it's faster than walking...

Anyway, could a "wing hop" be more quiet than running, feet pounding on the ground?

If I wasn't already in the air then I could use such a hop to pounce on an opponent, sink my claws in their flesh, and take them to the air. A powered dive would be more efficient, however.

If you were in the same or similar situation how would you use the powers of an incubus to your advantage?
