I think this can be summoned by the following cover image courtesy of RK Post. If someone's got a copy and wants to review...?
Guess what -New Dragon!
Where would one find online this particular issue of Dragon? And is it issue #339? (I found the issue number hard to read)
Argh ... that blade-headed transvestite is not ... can't be ... is it supposed to be ...
If it is, RK Post deserves a flaying.
I'm okay with it, assuming that rk post's artistic license is up to date and paid in full.
Just as long as those things behind her aren't supposed to be dabus, of course. Artistic license can only get you so far.
If it is, RK Post deserves a flaying.
"I based her on the original Tony D interior piece and added my own crazy stuff to it, like cleavage. ;)" - RK Post
Hey, you can't go wrong with that last bit... *blush*
Hey, you can't go wrong with that last bit... *blush*
.. said the proud owner of the furriest set of teats in the Cage.
It's not just about her cleavage - the face, the red nose, the manly build, the bladed helmet, the "dabus"...
Ok - admittedly a lot of Tony D's characters have a red tint on their nose so that might be a little bit of him slipping in. I actually don't see the 'maleness' you do apparently. *eyes the dabus* And I think those are larvae.
Re: "maleness"
IMHO, it's obvious; face + shoulders + hips + obviously fake boobs. I personally know at least one futabari prostitute far more convincing than that thing.
Don't worry. It is just reflecting the LoP's LE alignment. She wears blades, has made decrees and is not good, thus LE by 3.5 munchkin-pandering advertizing standards..
And Remember she can only be damaged by a +5 weapon (so non-epic characters have a chance in the encounter).
*gets offended and runs off to ponder electrolysis, or to eat lots of chocolate and invite A'kin over*
YES! * dances in a circle till he gets dizzy*
Hey... Rip... *grin*
I suggest that you pay attention to the Mercykiller section in the Dead Faction article in Dragon 339. Wes Schneider added some material into Monte Lin's original draft, putting in a very cool tip of the hat to you and I both.
Based on some stuff we had up on Enworld, the two rumored fates of Alisohn Nilesia in the article are drawn directly from my storyhour and your writeup of Darkwood selling Nilesia to the Cornugon Amaggel through Rule-Of-Three.
Oh, really? Cool.
Yikes, that does look like a transvestite. Not the body so much, but definitely the face. The jaw is too thick. And the blades of her headdress don't look sharp. Cleavage is good in most places, but not here. The Lady is a disembodied, almost-sexless, masked entity, not a backstreet floozy.
(roll on Random Prostitutes table from DMG 1E)
But this is all good. If Dragon sparks interest in PS it doesn't matter how the Lady looks. Front page too. We're moving up in the Infernal Hierarchy of Forgotten Roleplaying Settings.
I just don't see it. To me, the figure is extremely feminine. If you look really close, you'll also note that the blades are embedded in her cheeks...it's not just a headdress. The cleavage doesn't hurt, either -- pleasure and pain and all that. I certainly wouldn't trade it for my Claudio Pozas version of the Lady of Pain, but I don't think this rendering will get R.K. Post mazed.
Eh, I see the transvestite thing everyone's lamenting. "Shrug" Honestly, I'm more concerned by the bush that's growing on her back. SCARY!
I like her as a tranny!
I'm a little surprised that she's doing some magic...and hanging out with creatures.
I always felt her to be less friendly But look at her all chummy with those bugs. And apparently a hidden porcupine
-pb-
They ARE neat litle bugs though. I wonder what they are. You know who this strange bug person COULD be?
A worshipper of Her Serenity. A Lady of Pain cultist. Working strange enchantments far outside of Her reach (Where all live cultists would be, of course).
The illustrations in the article itself are amazing, though. I particularly like the city scene with Alluvius Ruskin blasting spells at the Grixxit.
I just picked it up at barnes and noble the other day, I think it is pretty good, the other things in the magazine are definately worth looking at as well. I really like the Athasian Dragon class, and the creature section, the carrionette is pretty cool,it's a nice adition to horror campaigns. And the Incantifier pristige class is pretty neat too.
I don't have it, but there's a discussion going on here: http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=159589&page=1&pp=40
Apparently there's some info on the Expansionists, the Incanterium, Communals, Godsmen, Mercykillers, and Signers in an article about dead factions.
