Godvoid?

Just wondering if somebody knew why godvoid was a slang term for Krynn

Re: Godvoid?

Probably a reference to the gods of Krynn departing the world between the Summer of Chaos and the War of Souls (though actually the world departed them, not the other way around).

During that period Krynn was, as far as anyone knew, a world without a gods. Thus: a godvoid.

I don't think that's an official term, though.

I saw the slang reference Plugin Not Found and when I did a search trying to find why exactly they called it that I got a newspaper-y looking result with the same text under the Godvoid heading in it.

While it's true that the gods were gone from Krynn during that time period, it seems like an awfully short period of time for a piece of jargon to arise referencing it (although Athas is called godvoid as well, apparently, at times).

Re: Godvoid?

Well, actually the gods of Krynn had apparently abandoned the world from the time of the Cataclysm until Goldmoon brought them back during the War of the Lance, so that's something like 350 years when the term "Godvoid" would be appropriate.

Come to think of it, Krynn isn't even accessible from Sigil after the Summer of Chaos, since it's not in its usual place and none of the portals that formerly led to the world work anymore. So probably there aren't any Sigilian slang terms about Krynn's godlessness during that period.

I don't see the word in The Planewalker's Handbook. I think it originated in the Mimir's Cant Dictionary, which makes it a fan-created term. That dictionary defined "Godvoid" as "Athas, Krynn, or the Athar faction, depending on who you ask," which makes sense to me.

I can see it as a general Sigilian term for a place or group in which the gods seem to be absent. Someone who traveled to Krynn some time after the Cataclysm would've said, "Hey, it looks like Krynn's a godvoid now, just like Athas."
