Gods in the Astral

Hey all, I was just wondering if anyone knew the dark about living gods in the astral? I heard some chant about Anubis being "stationed" there as the guardian of the dead gods' husks, but the memory is a bit 'lothy and I would like clarification from a group of knowledgeable cutters like yourselves.

Anubis is there, but he's not exactly a god anymore. The Guardian of the Dead Gods is more of a force... or something. It's hard to tell exactly what. Perhaps something like the Lady of Pain.

Celestian, a god of stars, space, and wanderers, lives in the Astral Plane.

Doesn't Fharlanghn (He Whose Name Sounds Like Gargling) live in the Astral too?

No, Fharlanghn (I pronounce it far-lane) wanders the world of Oerth on the Material Plane. He doesn't leave the planet. His role is to guide those who wander the land, while his brother Celestian's role is to guide those who wander the stars and planes.

Curses, so there is a god living in the astral. I was hoping to draw some wild conclusion about the astral being a plane of thought and therefore would just block out the unthinking faith required to sustain a god's power. This would also explain all the corpses of dead gods lying around as even if someone had no faith in them there would probably still be someone who knows about them. Or maybe there's a minimum level of faithful personages required to maintain a god's divine being. If there were still a few faithful or simply those with a scholarly interest in the former power their corpses will continue to hang around until nobody believes in them or even knows they exist.

Wow, I just blew my own mind.

Don't forget those agents working for various outside forces who are collecting pieces of dead gods for study -- perhaps in the hope of learning the secrets of immortality for their employers.

that's an interesting thought about the astral being a plane of thought and thus denying faith, but aren't there some gods (specifically those of knowledge) that would prefer a less blind form of faith?

as to gods exsisting on the astral, what pantheon is celestian? I don't recall having heard of him.

He belongs to the Oeridian and Common pantheons in the Greyhawk setting. He's also popular among planewalkers and spelljammerers.
