Githzerai in the part 2 of the setting have it's non-psionic version. I have to use that one (though i like psionics), but than some question appear. They have spell-like ability "inertial armor". It gives them +4 AC. But:
- there is nothing about spell duration - is it permanent spell-like effect, or does gith have to activate it? If yes, how long will it take for this effect to disappear? And how many times per day can he use it?
- If this effect is permanent, isn't it too good for a substitute of "naturally psionic"? Monks using this would get great advantage.

If you're unhappy with that, you could easilly change it to "on guard" - not maintain it like a spell but having to apply some degree of thought to it, as much as a fighter is concentrating when he's fighting. So not while asleep, in a surprise round, or drinking in a tavern (unless the tavern is dangerous enough for you to be 'on your guard').
In this case, I'd make it a free action to raise your defences.
My impression is that non-psionic 'zerai get the force armour all the time.
