Githyanki Lich Queen.

Any guesses on what the possible reprucussions would be to the Githyanki should their Lich Queen be annihilated for good?

Think the race would be more likely to create a new dynasty, Go on a multiversal rampage, quietly weep for their lost queen or what?

*******

Also on a side note any ideas on how to incorporate Finding and destroying Her Phylactery into the campaign in a way that does justice to how well shes hidden it, while leaving a fair chance of finding it?

Re: Githyanki Lich Queen.

The Queen is dead, long live the Queen, Vlaakith Vlaakith CLVIII!

Vlaakith CLVII doesn't have children, so there is no heir apparent. Of course there's 157 Vlaakiths before her, who for all we know had multiple children, and Vlaakith I might have had brothers and sisters who also had many children, so there's a long line of potential successors. A 1000 year reign is long, but not really long enough to break the line of succession. Even if Vlaakith deliberately tried to sabotage the line through assassination, she would have a hard time. So the monarchy is quite secure, if nothing weird happens.

But maybe the githyanki are fed up with the monarchy, and the death of Vlaakith and the squabbling amongs the heirs incites a revolution. A new dynasty begins, or a great githyanki republic is formed.

Another possibility, is that another githyanki lady lich quietly takes over. Not legally, not rightfully, just sits on the throne, pretends to be Vlaakith CLVII, claims that all rumors of her demise are false, and that there's nothing to worry about. If she's plays it cool nobody will find out, and Vlaakiths reign might well last another 1000 years. I think this has actually happened before, and that the current lich queen is one such an impostor, but I don't quite remember where I got that.

And of course there's the possibility that Gith herself returns, or a pretender to the throne that claims a direct bloodline to Gith. In that case she naturally gets her throne back, which the Vlaakiths were only keeping warm after all.

Whoever ends up sitting on the throne, she's bound to make some changes. And even if it's only one rule that gets removed or added, there's still a 1000 years of tradition in the way that will make change very slow. Also there's plenty of opportunities now for new sycophants, courtiers, advisors and admirers, who all need time so suck up and secure their positions. I don't think anybody will mourn the old queen, because iirc she's much hated among her people.

Before all the dust has settled down it might well be that the multiverse is a little safer because the githyanki will be looking inward, focussed on their own politics, at least for a little while.

Dungeon Magazine #100 has a great adventure for defeating Vlaakith once and for all (including her phylactery) and what would happen afterward. The adventure involves her tapping into the dormant power of the god isle she's on, so maybe it's not exactly what you're looking for, but it's a good source to mine for lots of other lich queen bits.

Re: Githyanki Lich Queen.

Check out the Rrakkma section in the forums for some ideas. We hashed out a post-Vlaakith githyanki scenario some time ago, and I ran an all-githyanki game for a time (Blades of Git-riban).

One of the sapects I am most proud of is the idea of the Power-Blocs githyanki-style political groups. There is a summary of them in Rrakkma forum, and longer individual write-ups, I think under "factions" if you search the submissions.

one more idea?

What if a GIthyank rogue, dodging all the Foils layed out for him by Vlaaakath, managed to go through apotheosis?

I could imagine such a new god, managing to rebuild Githyanki society,
