Gith and Variant Classes

As I've been looking once again at the githyanki (and to a lesser degree, the githzerai) in the past few weeks, I've found myself glancing again and again at the variant classes from Unearthed Arcana and from a whole slew of the more recent books. I'd like to get a discussion rolling about what class variants you've used for the gith races and why.

In particular, I'm interested in the notion of whether it would be appropriate to include Paladins of Tyranny among the ranks of the githwarriors.

Since it has been established that Blackguards form the core of the Knights, I've been focusing on the differences between the BG and the PoT. My only stumbling block has been "divine health" as a class feature, since there's no good "negative energy manipulation" alternative as there is for spellcasting or the aura of despair.

Thoughts?

While this is so for 3e, I'll point out that what exactly githyanki knights are has changed repeatedly over the course of different editions. They're evil-aligned paladins... no, they're evil cavaliers... no, they're really blackguards!
